Unlike most animals, they take longer to reach adulthood. Naked Mole Rates tend to move backwards which is actually easier for them. Their family or "colony" runs like an insect colonies with having a queen. There could be up to 80 rats in a single colony. Since they lived underground, they have little fear of predators. The Eastern Beaked snake will hunt them. Because of their burrows stays a constant temperature, they nearly lost the ability to regulate their own body temperature! The Naked Mole Rat will only surface when traveling to another colony and only at night.
