Thirty-eight

Nakatingin si Michelle sa mukha ni Brent na seryosong nagda-drive. Pauwi na sila sa Manila at sasamahan siya nito sa pagbisita kay Adam.

Nang ibalita sakanya ni Ate Alexis na gising na si Adam ay nakahinga siya ng maluwag. Siyempre masaya siya na ligtas na si Adam pero binagabag siya nang idagdag ni Ate Alexis na hinahanap siya ni Adam. Ate Alexis almost pleaded her to come visit his brother na hindi raw nila makausap dahil hindi raw sila nito kinakausap. It also bothered her.

"Hey.. you woke up early." Brent said and hugged her from behind. His shirtless so his warmth enveloped her.

She held his arms around her waist and leaned her head on his chest. "Adam's awake now." she said.

"That's good." he said then kissed her temple.

She sighed. Hindi niya alam kung paano sasabihin kay Brent pero kailangan niya iyon sabihin. She wants to be honest to him at all times. Ayaw niya ng may tinatago siya rito dahil hindi maganda ang nagiging pakiramdam niya kapag ganoon.

"His sister called me and said that Adam wants to see me." she honestly said.

Kumalas siya sa pagkakayakap ni Brent sakanya at umikot para maharap ito. Her hands are holding his. Nang tignan niya si Brent, hindi naman ito mukhang galit o ano. His face is so peaceful pa nga.

"Do you want to see him?" he asked.
Huminga siya ng malalim at dahan-dahang tumango. "Yes. But it can wait. I want to spend some more time with you." she sincerely said.

Yes, she wants to go and visit Adam and see if he's okay. Kahit naman papaano, she still cares for him. They've been friends since they were in diapers at parang nakaprogram na sakanilang magkakaibigan na mag-alala sa isa't isa kahit pa na may hindi pagkakaunawaan. 

Brent gently pulled her into a bear hug and kissed her forehead. "We'll just eat our breakfast then go home. Is that okay?"

She looked up at him. "Are you sure?"
Brent smiled and nodded. "Go take a shower, I'll order our breakfast."

Saktong seven am they are on the road going home. Wala silang imikan ni Brent. It was not disturbing pero hindi niya maiwasan na sulyap-sulyapan ito. Hindi niya kasi malaman kung okay lang ba talaga ito kay Brent o hindi. Kahit pa na mukha naman itong okay sa labas, hindi pa rin siya pakakasigurado dahil hindi niya mabasa ang isip nito.

She sighed and looked outside the window. Malapit na sila sa ospital pero ang isip niya ay na kay Brent pa rin. The last thing she doesn't want is hurting Brent. She loves him so much. Panget man pakinggan, pero mas higit ang pagmamahal na nararamdaman niya para kay Brent kumpara sa pagmamahal niya kay Adam noong sila pa.

With Brent, she discovered the inner her. He let her be whatever she wants to be. He's always by her side, supporting her. He always makes time and effort and puts her first above all. His jokes and sweet words always making her heart beats fast like she just ran a marathon. She felt things that she never thought that she could feel. And those are all because of Brent.

Adam's important to her but Brent is far more important to her now. His happiness is first.

Nang makarating sila ni Brent sa tapat ng ospital ay hindi muna siya bumaba.

"Hindi kita masasamahan sa loob. I need to go hom and fix some things. Tawagan mo ko if uuwi ka na para masundo kita. Okay?" bilin sakanya nito. 

Tinignan niya lang ito tapos ay bumuntong-hininga siya. "If you don't want me to see him, then I won't." pinal na saad niya. 

Kumunot naman ang noo nito. "What? It's really fine with me, Michelle." sabi nito.
She warily looked at him. "You're more important to me."

Brent smiled at her. He leaned in and kissed her lips. "I know, baby." he whispered. "You're more important to me too. But I am not that selfish and close minded. I understand that right now, your friend needs you."
