Mae Carter isn't exactly one who's been lucky in the love department. With her past love gone and miles away, she's given the chance to start over. A famous book, book tours, and crazy friend schedules, may keep her busy for the time being. But when...
The blank hallways give me a sigh of relief and a piece of quietness. My heels clack against the tile that echoes throughout the aisle, a rhythm beating in my chest now.
My last book signing is today and I'm somewhat sad but I'm mostly relieved I'm able to go home. This entire summer has been a crazy road trip back and forth between home and new places. I can finally breathe after today.
When I come into the auditorium people turn their heads to me and I smile politely to them. This "fame" I've been experiencing is still so new to me even after an entire summer to get used to it, I honestly don't know how the girls put up with it.
I set myself down at a table with copies of my latest novel, Childhood Love, and I grab a Sharpie pen to sign my name with. My hand slides across the first pages of the book, sending each of my fans a warm smile as I give it away to them. Every once in awhile I'll ask who they are, how their day is, and if they enjoyed the story. Most of the replies are their names, that their day is perfect now, and how they loved my book.
The clock ticks, my hand cramps every few signatures now, but I notice I only have a small amount of people left.
"Hi, and who is this book going to?" I wonder, swiping my name on the paper.
"Oh - uh . . . Hunter." The voice cracks.
"I like that name, and Hunter, did you like my book?" I ask.
"Oh yes, it's very different from all of the other sappy stories you hear nowadays. It's also morally good, like McKenzie and Cooper grew up with these big dreams of always being together, having this amazing Romeo - Juliet love - minus the death of course."
I chuckle at this.
"And so whenever Cooper falls away and McKenzie moves, it just kinda puts things in perspective that the choices we make in our lives will carve our paths. Whatever we decide to do with our talent, our dreams, our hopes, it all will lead down a certain road. For McKenzie and Cooper, it drove them apart, and later on they realize it and it led to a sad but understandable ending. Very well thought out."
Finally, I glance up at the person who just spoke about my book better than I could ever have, "whoa. I will say, I'm impressed."
He smiles - a very cute one I might add - "thank you."
I fold my hands on the table, "okay Hunter, since you have good opinions, do you think the story should be ended the way it did? Why or why not."
He laughs, "well, I happen to say yes because McKenzie and Cooper showed childish motives in the beginning, wanting to make things go back to normal, but in the end they proved how much they've grown up and the maturity they provided gave a sense of relief to every one else and themselves, they now have a chance to move on and start something new. My answer also has to deal with the lack of clicheness, like in the last chapter they didn't just kiss randomly and get engaged right after that, they moved away from each other and ended sadly, but a nice sad."
I force my mouth closed, "dang boy, you're good. Like scary good. Congrats. I have to say, you're my favorite fan."
"Why thank you Ma'am." He winks, causing a slight blush up my cheeks.
Oh gosh. No. Not here. NO. Nah uh am I falling for a boy who is this crazed fan that I'll probably see today and never again. And no way will I be swayed by his charismatic smile and built body, this is stupid.
"Well, this was nice, you've definitely made this signing a whole lot better than my others. I'm sorry, but I do have to go, good to meet you Hunter."
I stand up and then grab my bag and phone, waving goodbye and slipping down a deserted hallway towards the rental car, and once I'm driving, I'll be heading to the airport to go home. Finally!

Hello my lovelies!
Hope you loved seeing Mae back and better than ever! I will say, this is NOT the last you will see of this charming new boy, Hunter. Nope, he's very critical in this sequel, and isn't he cute?!
