Mae

"Why did you ask me here?" Carson asks me, standing in front of me.

We stand by the railing inside the church. The same place where almost twelve years ago we confessed our feelings for one another.

"Do you remember what happened here in this spot?" I wonder.

"Of course, we told each other we liked each other. It happened during vbs."

"Yeah, and do you remember our last year of camp together? The one where we talked to each other on the deck?"

He nods his head in understanding.

"Well, you said that you will always love me, for some reason I believed you even though I kept screaming at myself to let go of every single feeling I had for you. When the truth is," I look into his eyes, "I will always have this part of me that will love you too. We loved each other and quite frankly no matter how hard we try to, we can't get rid of our first love. But I really love Hunter. I'm with him now Carson, you have to understand that."

His eyes swarm with sadness but he knows what I'm talking about. He understands.

"I figured. It's kind of strange though, having it the other way around. You're in a relationship and I'm the single man with no life." He half laughs and rubs the back of his neck.

I playfully shove his arm, "now you know how I felt."

"Yeah, but you and Hunter are good for each other. I'm sorry I ever got in the way of you two."

I blush, "thank you. Don't worry, you'll find a girl. I know it."

He softly smiles, "thanks Mae."

"Of course." I return his grin.

We stand in silence before I speak again, "when are leaving?"

He sighs, "tomorrow."

"Why?!" I whine.

"My teams there, my house, everything." He explains.

"I know, I know, I just don't want you to leave." I admit in a hushed voice.

He stretches out his arms and motions for me to come give him a hug. He holds me tight.

"It's okay, I'll be back really soon. I swear." He rests his chin my my head.

I close my eyes, "better be or else I'll hunt you down."

He laughs, "fair enough."

"Thanks brother."

I must've shocked him because it takes him awhile until he stutters he reply.

"Bye little sis."
