»» MaeI take in a deep breath, weariness washing over my body. Everything that just happened in there at the table, it gave me an aching pain I've gotten used to, only to make it worse, it just totally blows this day off its happy course.
I stand up from the bench I was sitting on and then go back inside to our table. Everybody is still talking but as I get closer, they're on a different topic.
"Hey Mae, is everything okay?" Madds asks.
I nod my head, "yeah, my mom just wanted to talk, since we haven't in a really long time."
"Oh." Everyone chimes in.
"So um, what're we talking about?"

"Do you still like Carson?" Christina asks me, pulling out of the Chiles parking lot.
My heart speeds up, "why would I?"
"Mae, stop lying to me and quite frankly stop lying to yourself." She points out.
I blankly stare out the window, not speaking to her. I look at the review mirror and see Kaitlyn and Madison in Madison's car. Since we had to leave separately this morning we had taken two different cars.
"Mae, please tell me what's going on. I can't stand you like this. What's wrong peaches?"
