"So he's coming over when?" Madison asks me as I dump strawberries onto the platter with the other fruits.
"Very very soon. And everyone must be on their best behavior." I sternly say, which, in return, I hear a few snickers from all three girls.
"You don't like him you say?" Christina giggles.
I pick up the plate full of fruit and follow Christina into the living room, setting the food down next to the other food.
"Haha funny. No. He's just our guest and I'm hoping a new close friend, I just want to make a good impression. Okay?" I explain.
She rolls her eyes and smiles, "fine, whatever you say."
"Yeah, I don't know Mae, you seem to be trying too hard to make a good first impression." Kaitlyn laughs.
I'm about to say something before all of the boyfriends, Toby, Ryan, and Bailey hobble inside. I glare at them, "and you three, I expect y'all will be good?"
They look at me with quizzical expressions until Christina slips over to Toby and grins.
"Mae has a date coming over and she doesn't want us to embarrass her."
Toby sends me a mischievous smile while Ryan and Bailey start with the "ooohs", "oh, so Mae, who is this new boy of yours?!"
"It's not a date! He is simply a friend who has the night free to hang out. It's that simple." I refuse.
He laughs at me, "oh my poor poor Mae, sweetie, no offense, but denial does not look good on you."
I grit my teeth but then the door knocks and fear swallows my anger. I jump to the door and breathe in before resting my hand on the knob.
I glare at every one who sends me funny faces, trying to hide their laughter, and then swing the door open. Hunter stands on the porch, wearing jeans and a nice polo on with converse to match.
"Hey." I greet.
"Hey." He smiles back.
"Come on in."
"Thanks." He walks past me and everyone in the living room grins up at the new arrival.
Christina is the first to stand and walks over to Hunter, her eyes shifting over his body and I can tell he tenses up.
"So you're the Hunter Mae talks about?" She says wryly.
I blush a deep red, and Hunter turns his head to me, "you do?"
"What?! No! I mean I told them you were coming but I don't like creepily talk about you or anything!" I ramble.
Toby smirks and parks himself right next to Christina, "oh yes! All the time! She even talks about how -"
I rush over to Toby and slap his arm, distracting him from his embarrassing and life threatening conversation.
"Well, you've met Christina and her boyfriend, Toby. They're the evil ones in the group." I inform him, he smiles at the adorable couple.
"Yeah, I can tell." And he grins down to me, making the familiar butterflies swarm in my stomach. Though at the same time, I'm wary with the feeling of liking another boy capable of hurting me like my former love did.
