Mae

Okay, I'll admit, I'm freaking out about the fact that I'm about to see Carson after almost a year. A year.

I wonder how much he's changed, I bet he'll talk about Grace, most likely he'll brag about Europe.

These things constantly cross my mind as I drive down to Stovol Park, the park where we met. It's where our brothers played baseball and how we were pretty awkward around each other, but then things changed as years passed. It's amazing how much has altered in our life's. He's been the one person that's seen me grow from an immature six year old to a slightly less immature twenty-three year old.

I park once I'm there and get out of my car. I already know where we'll be meeting, it's the place where we first met. That small patch of field, distanced between everything else, it's the only place he'd ever think of going to talk.

As I expected, I see him there, sitting on the ground, looking around the area. I put on my best smile and start to go towards him.

"Hey." I greet.

He whips his head around and grins wide to me, "hi Mae."

Here we go . . .

"I've missed you Mae."

I nod my head, "I have too. I mean, I know we left on not some good terms and I'm still really uncomfortable about it but I mean -"

"Grace and I broke up." He blurts out.

My rambling comes to an instant stop, this is surprising.

"Uh - wow, I'm so sorry Carson. I didn't know."

He shrugs, "it's fine. I proposed to her one night but she told me she wanted more in her life. So we split."

Sympathy washes over me, "I'm really sorry. She's missing out on a lot."

"It's honesty okay, I need to focus on soccer anyways. But coming home, visiting, seeing you, it all helps." He explains simply.

"I'm glad. I've missed you so much, but I think we still need to clear some things up." I look at him with concern, "you left me again Carson, and that hurt."

"I'm really really really sorry, Mae. I can't believe of how much I've been a jerk to you, I take full responsibility. But please, will you ever forgive me?"

I smile softly, "of course I forgive you,  I just want us to go back to being best friends. I've spent too long pushing you away, I want you back in my life. Can you forgive me for being a complete brat?"

"I'll always forgive you Mae." He smiles.

I sigh a breath of relief, "thank you."

"Come here."

Carson stands up and and motions me to do the same thing, when I do, he wraps me in his arms and he hugs me. I feel safe and warm like how I'd feel in a big brothers arms. No feeling of love waver me, I'm just taking in his sweat and cologne smell and feel his strong arms fold me up.

"By the way, if this Hunter ever hurts you, I swear Mae, you better tell me so I can beat him up." He says as his chin rests atop of my head.

I giggle, "well, you'll have to beat Christina to it if you want to do that."

"Oh gosh," he laughs, "don't even get me started."
