On The Run

Arii POV

"Come one we gotta go. Grab Tiana bag and get in the car." Rajae yelled at me. I moved as quickly as I could trying not to drop anything. I swung the backpack over my shoulder and picked up a sleeping Tiana.

Careful of my belly, I put her in her seat and then climbed in the passenger seat. Im 7 months pregnant and in the run from the cops. Just great. Just then Rajae came out with a duffle bag. After slamming the trunk shut, he climbed in the driver seat and drove off.

Rajae POV

" You aight?" I looked over and held Arii's hand. She aint said nothin' since we left Chicago. We're heading to florida. From there, we'll take a plain to Brazil. She always wanted to go there.

"Im fine. Just tired."

I rubbed her stomach and felt her jump a bit.

"You sure you straight?"

"Yeah."

"Daddy were are we going?" I heard Tiana say.

"On a little trip. Fo back to sleep we'll be there when you wake up."

I stopped at a gas station to get gas. I looked through the window at my family. I can't believe that after everything, Arii still here. We been through a lot of shit and I know we both exhausted.

Pulling out the pump, I walked into the gas station to pay for the gas.

"$20 on pump 3." I said handing him the bill.

"Anything else?" He asked.

"Yeah gimme a bag of skittles and a fruit punch."

When the guy leaned down to get my skittles, I noticed the tv was in the news channel and me and Arii's faces was on the screen. The cops is lookin' for us.

The guy stood up and handed me my stuff.

"$2.97 is your total." He said. I handed him a $5.

He took forever with the change so I just said....

"Man keep the change. I grabbed my stuff and walked out.

The guy behind the counter looked at the tv then back at me.

"Hey! Stop!" He called out.

I dropped the bag and ran to the car quickly driving off.

"What's wrong?" Arii asked.

"Rajae what's going on? Slow down and TALK TO ME!" She yelled.

Before I could answer I saw red and blue lights in my rearview mirror.

"Shit!" I yelled out.

I sped down the highway and weaved in and out of cars.

"Daddy what's going on? Slow down.!" Tiana yelled.

"It's ok Titi we're almost there." Arii said.

My head started to hurt as Tiana began to cry. More and more cop cars followed behind us as I raced down the street. Coming up with an idea, I made a U-turn and entered a parking garage.

Slamming on the brakes, I hopped out the car and broke the window out the other one.

"What are you doing?" Arii yelled out the door.

"Get out." I said back.

Arii POV

"What?"

"Grab Tiana, get your bag and come get in the car." He said.

I did as he said and stood next to him as he hot wired the car making it start.

"I want you to get in the car and drive. Don't stop for anything. I'll lead them the other way and meet you at the airport in Florida ok? Keep your ringer on. I'll call you in 20 minutes. If you don't answer I'm coming for you aight?"

I put Tiana in the back seat and strapped her in.

"Why can't you come with us?" I asked grabbing his arm.

"If the cops catch us, thass 15 ta life on my head, out child gon' be born in a cell and Tiana gon' be inna system and I aint havin' it."

"What am I supposed to do? Im 7 months pregnant and Tiana needs you more than you think! She's gonna grow up remembering your back more than your face because that's what shes used to seeing. You can't keep putting her through this, leaving her when shit go wrong!"

He grabbed me by my shoulders and gave it a squeeze.

"Look Imma come back fa yall I promise. But we don't have time to argue over this."

I started to cry. I pulled him into a hug and squeezed like I didn't wanna let go. He broke the hug and then opened the back door.

"Daddy where you going?" She asked.

"Titi, daddy's going away for a little while. I'll be back soon ok? Just be good until I get back."

She leaned forward and wrapped her little arms around his neck. Rajae kissed all over her face then let her go.

"Put your seat belt on."

Shutting the door he pulled me into a kiss. It felt like e was saying goodbye, and that he didn't really wanna leave. All his passion and pain, went went through that kiss.

Finally pulling away he got into his car.

"2o minutes." He said.

"I love you." I said back.

"I love you too." Then he sped off down the ramp.
