Twisted Moon - Book 3 of the Black Moon series - Chapter 28: Explanations
(Camden's POV - Tue. 24 March 2015)
Dear Mr. Hall,
Please find attached Mr. Noah Mitchell's detailed results to the tests he took on Monday and this morning in our school.
We are pleased to confirm his enrollment in our accelerated program.
Noah will start his schedule on Wednesday as per the documents we provided during his registration.
Best regards,
Mr. Lennander
Principal
Here is the good news I have been waiting for since shortly after noon, when Noah called me to say that he was done with this morning's tests and that he was really happy with what he did today in art. Well he should! I think to myself as I quickly open the attached file and see the detailed results. Damn!! 95% in arts! I'm really impressed - though not entirely surprised because the boy has a genuine talent in this domain. His other grades are not that bad. He did very well in English and History, a little less good in Science, and he will definitely need some help in Math where he only got 51%. Well, overall this is rather good and the most important is that he is allowed to enroll in the accelerated program. Since I still have five minutes before my next patient, I grab my phone and call him.
"Hello!!!" he cheers when he answers the call. "Did you see the results??"
"Congratulations, Noah! I am super proud of you!" I tell him. "I knew you'd make it!"
"Thanks!! I just got the results too and... wow... I'm overexcited!!! I'm so happy Camden!!" he squeals in a high-pitched tone that has me pull my phone away from my ear for a second.
"Yeah, I hear that... You just killed one of my eardrums!" I groan.
"Sorry... Can we celebrate tonight?" he then begs.
"Celebrate?" I chuckle.
"Yeah... like with some of the good junk food that you dislike and maybe Champagne?" he suggests.
"Forget about Champagne, you're underage," I reply seriously. I barely drink alcohol, myself, so I won't let him drink any.
"Your friend Aaron is right... You're such a party-pooper!" he sighs, making me laugh.
"I know I am. Anyway, tonight won't be possible, Noah. I'm finishing late, I remind you."
"Oh damn! I'd forgotten about that..."
"We can celebrate tomorrow. I'll make sure to finish early," I console him.
"Okay..." he sighs again.
"If you are brave enough though, I left some cash on the console this morning and you can walk downtown to get yourself some McDonald's," I propose.
"That's far!!! Though... I could hitchhike there, I guess," he mumbles.
"No way, Noah! You don't hitchhike! Either you walk or you get what's in the fridge or in the freezer," I warn him.
"It wouldn't be the first time I hitchh..."
"I said NO WAY, Noah! And I'm not kidding!" I insist firmly. Even if we live in a quiet town and there is really little risk that anything happens to him, you never know.
"Kay... Daddy..." he sighs as if he didn't really care about what I am saying.
"Seriously, Noah... Don't do that, understood?" I repeat, ignoring his Daddy teasing. That habit is really starting to wear on me in a way that it shouldn't.
