Chapter 1
*Nathan's point of view*
She was different. Her phone wasn't in her hand 24/7, she was always alone. I have been in this town for almost 2 weeks now, almost 2 weeks since the first time I saw her. I have never spoken to her, too scared to stutter and make a fool of myself.
Her long black curly hair flowed down the back of the chair she was sitting on, eyes concentrated on the book she had in her small hand. I am not able to make out the smaller details on her face, only the obvious things such as shape.
I don't even know the girl's name.
I always see her in the hallways at school but made it look like I wasn't staring at her. She would always have earbuds in her ears as she made her way to her classes, ignoring everyone's stupid comments as they swarmed the small hallways.
The first day I saw her, she was in the same position she was in at this very moment. I sat in the same chair, not too far from her but far enough for her to not notice me.
My pencil scratches its graphite against the white paper of my sketchbook. I was drawing her. She would sit so still, it was easy. She was art. I love art, they are unique in their own ways.
It was about time for her to leave, around 6 p.m. I assume it was because she needed to have dinner with her family. She marks her book before closing it, then stood up. Quickly, I moved slowly behind a nearby bookshelf, so she wouldn't know I was there.
The beautiful girl placed the book in her backpack, put her Adidas jacket on then exited the large library. After this point, I just stood there, remembering her image in my head. Her smile as she read something humorous in the story. The way her nose wrinkled as her eyes scanned a confusing part of the book. The best part was when she was getting to the climax or at least something important. She would take her lip into her teeth, trying to concentrate on the important scene.
After of few minutes, I leave the library myself. My new house was not very far from the library so I could ride my bike or just walk. It was a lovely day, sunny and cool, I just wanted to walk.
Nathan be a man and just talk to her before she gets away, I thought. My conscious was always there to encourage me.
As I walk into my house, my older brother bumps into me. "Where the fuck were you? I was looking for you after school! Remember, you and I were supposed to go to the store to get mom's birthday present!" He yelled at me. I stood there, I did forget. I'm an idiot.
"I was-" I started before my brother cut me off again. "Yeah I know where you were, stalking the hot girl again" he growled at me.
"How do you know about- I mean I don't know what you are talking about" I tried to act clueless but did a terrible job.
"Nathan, you stink at lying and hiding things. Plus, I have my sources." He explained.
"I was not stalking anyone, I was at the library." I technically was at the library, just not doing anything productive.
"Bullshit." He spat out. "So I guess you don't want to know anything about her, like her name?" He asked.
My brother, Grayson, was now one of the popular people who know everything. I was the little brother who was just trying to get through school, not wanting any sort of attention.
"I wouldn't mind knowing."
"Whatever. Her name is Athena Adams, a sophomore. She is half Hispanic and Russian. A shit load of people knows her because of her eyes. Very hard to tame, apparently a wild person. So many guys tried to go after her but never succeeded. You have a little competition, have fun kid." He finished what he was saying before running up the stairs to his room.
Athena, it's just as beautiful as her. Wild? She seems so quiet and sophisticated. I guess you can never really know someone from their appearance. And her eyes? Do they change color? Are they just an amazing color? Who knows?
I jog up to my room and place my sketch book on the desk, to admire the work. She will always be in my book and mind. I want to talk to her so bad but if other guys can't get with her, why would she want me? I was just some normal boring person. I only have black hair, green eyes, and very pale skin. Nothing amazing, nothing worthy.
I slip my hand under my bed, grabbing a new bottle of alcohol. I untwisted the top and brought it to my lips. The bitter taste flowed down my throat, making it burn. I wasn't the kind of person to drink or do bad things. Knowing me, I would get caught and put in jail. I needed to have more exciting things in my life occur, this is the farthest I could get at the moment.
Maybe Athena will bring a little excitement to my dull life, just maybe.
