Chapter 5
*Nathan's Point of View*
Athena slumped into the booth, where I sat with her. After leaving Mason at the school, the guys wanted to go to the diner nearby. She hasn't said much, clearly, she was in deep thought. Within a few minutes a waitress came and asked for our orders, the woman waited for Athena's response. The only thing Athena did was stare as if she was waiting for the waitress to say something. Viktor jumped in and told the woman what his sister wanted.
The woman left and the whole group started talking amongst themselves. Athena sat in the booth, waiting for her meal. I poked her side, making her look up at me. "Are you okay?" I asked. She shrugged her shoulders, not knowing her true answer. "When is that concert you want to go to?"
She went on notes on her iPhone, "October 6, a Friday. Please tell me you can go." Her eyes looked up at me. The two different yet beautiful colored eyes glistened with unshed tears. It was like her eyes were begging me to go.
"I will make sure I can go. I'm not letting you go by yourself to the best concert of all time!" I said loudly, my voice was filled with so much excitement. I was excited. I was going to something she loves.
The sophomore girl gave me a large smile and a hug, mentally thanking me. "Athena!" We heard a loud voice yell. Everyone in the diner stared at the entrance of the building. Mason was standing there, fuming. His eyes were dead set on Athena. Her face was emotionless to the whole situation as if she had been through it before.
Her boyfriend rushed over and began yelling at her. "What the fuck is this? A little date with the new freak in town? Seriously, Athena? I thought you were better than that. I actually thought I could trust you! I have been through so much shit for you! But nope, you are just some trashy slut like the rest of the girls in this town. I got expelled for you for fuck sake's!" All eyes were on our table. Athena didn't move, she was waiting for him to stop his ranting.
"Say something for once! Fight back!" He screamed. Athena stood up for her side of the booth, climbing over me to get to him. She didn't say anything, only stood there. "You are so weak! Just because your shitty grandfather killed himself-" she cut him off by slapping him. Her hit was firm and loud. Mason's face shifted to his right side from the impact.
Athena was now angry as well. Her breathing was hard and loud, she was trying to calm herself down. After being slapped, Mason understood what he just said to her. He knew he had crossed the line and tried to go near her. She pushed him roughly, making him stumble backward.
"Baby, I'm sorry. You know I didn't mean it-" Mason started to say but Athena grabbed his shirt. She began to whisper roughly and almost loud enough for me to hear. After saying what she had to say, she pushed Mason away and came back to the table.
He stood there for a few seconds, realizing what he had done. His eyes wandered over to her, but she didn't care about looking at him. It was clear to see his eyes were getting watery. He had possibly lost his girlfriend for over a year, it seems she was very important to him. As for Athena, she cares but not after you cross a certain line.
I hope I never cross that fine line with her.
Mason exited the diner, leaving everyone to their previous conversations. Viktor stuck his hand over the table, grabbing his sister's. She gave him a small smile and nodded at him, showing him she was okay. It was clear that she wasn't happy, she wasn't okay with what happened.
