Chapter 44

*Athena's Point of View*

I haven't heard anything about Nathan since I got here, Marty was right. Nathan's father refuses to allow any of the staff to tell us any updates on my boyfriend. He saw me and gave me the evil eye, threatening the staff to keep me away from Nathan. "Don't allow this criminal to enter my son's room. If she tries anything, call security." All the staff looked at me differently once they heard the word "criminal." It bothered me more and more as the word worked through my brain. I didn't do anything, and now I was forbidden to see my own boyfriend. I wasn't alone though. My brothers came to the hospital one at a time to comfort me and keep me company. Marty never left the hospital like me because he wanted to see how Nathan was doing. We talked for hours and hours about life, Nathan, and school.

I laid my head back on the uncomfortable chair to rest for a few minutes. Marty went down to the cafeteria for some food while I waited for any news from the staff. I heard the elevator door ring and footsteps walking towards me. I thought it was Marty with the food, but it was Dean. It's been a while since I saw him. I worked a lot so there was never any time for me to go out. Our town was so small that you could see everyone just by walking down the street. "How are you doing?" He asked, taking a seat next to me. I shrugged my shoulders. I barely slept in the past few days. I haven't been able to take a smoke break. I had to eat junk food from the cafeteria or vending machine. I took showers in an empty room, the staff knew me and allowed it.

I rubbed my eyes to wake myself up, "how did you know I was here?"

"I went to your house to talk to you and Christov told me you were here. I'm sorry about Nathan. The kid's a pain in the ass, but he doesn't deserve this," Dean chuckled. I smiled slightly at his comment. Nathan was a difficult person, but he meant the world to me. "God, I miss that smile," he whispered, thinking that I wouldn't hear him. Dean was a good person sometimes, other times he could be the most irritating human being. I didn't love Dean like the way he loves me, there was never a good connection. "Have you heard anything?"

I glance down at my lap, pretending I didn't hear what he said about my smile. "No one has told me about his condition. I'm not sure if he's okay or if he's close to death." I wasn't angry at Nathan's father anymore. He is a stubborn old man who refuses to change his opinion even though it's wrong. There was no way for me to convince him that I was a good person who loves his son. Grayson attempted to talk to me about Nathan, but his father dragged him away. I felt like sitting here in the waiting room was not doing anything for me, but there was nothing else I could do.

Dean frowned and stood up, "you don't know anything? Fuck, I'm going to go talk to someone about this. I will be back." He headed down the hallway towards Nathan's room and grabbed the doctor outside the door. Dean leaned down to whisper something into the doctor's ear then dragged him into an empty room. I sat there, anticipating the scene that was going on behind the door. The doctor walked out of the room with a horrified look on his face. His eyes found me, and he rushed over as if his life depended on it.

"Athena Adams?" He guessed, and I nodded my head. "I have been informed that you wish to be updated on the status of my patient, Nathan Carter." I nodded my head again, not knowing what to say. "I would like to keep this between us, considering that Nathan's father told me not to give you information. I noticed that you haven't left the building since you arrived, I'm sorry that I haven't told you any information beforehand. Nathan has a severe head injury, but nothing in his body was broken. During the incident, his car flipped over multiple times after being hit on his side of the vehicle. Mr. Carter has not woken up yet." The doctor looked around to see if there are any witnesses in the room. He gave me a faint smile and headed back to his patients.
