Chapter 45

*Nathan's Point of View*

My father wasn't very happy when I woke up. He started screaming at me for being so reckless when I crashed the car. Apparently, it was my friend Marty's car, but I don't remember him. I don't remember much of anything from when we moved here. I met the boy, Marty, he's a real sweet kid. He came in after I woke up and started talking to me as if we were long lost best friends. Anyway, my father yelled at me for drinking and driving like a million times. My head started to hurt as his loud voice ran through my head, finally, a nurse rushed in and asked him to quiet down.

When I first woke up, a girl ran into my room by mistake. Man, she was so beautiful. Her eyes were so weird, they didn't match, not even close. One was bright blue while the other was a dark brown mixture. The smile on her face was so perfect that it made me feel butterflies in my bruised stomach, but when I opened my mouth, that smiled disappeared. She stood there, her face looked like she was in another universe. I felt horrible about even saying anything to her, it looked like her whole world just broke in front of her. Maybe I was too harsh with my words. I wanted to say something else to her, but she ran out of the room before I could. The scene replayed over and over in my head. I wanted to see her again.

Grayson has been taking care of me since I was released from the hospital, but he rarely allowed me to leave the house. I felt isolated from the rest of the world, I wanted to go out and see the town. I wanted my memory to come back. I wanted to remember what happened in the last year and I needed to work for it. Some of my friends came by to see me, apparently, they are all brothers. Viktor, Ivan, Roman, and Christov. They were so nice and understanding with my memory and all, I felt sorry that I wasn't able to recognize any of them.

I still don't understand why I was driving drunk in the first place. I wasn't a big drinker, but the doctors say that my alcohol level was so high that they needed to pump my stomach. I wanted to know, just why I did this to myself. What was so important that I needed to do that at that time, why didn't I wait? I wanted answers

Finally, Grayson allowed me to leave the house. He took me to the diner to get lunch, he felt bad for keeping me in the house all the time. The setting felt familiar yet so foreign at the same time, I despised the feeling. I examined the menu, trying to decide what I wanted to eat when I heard small footsteps creeping up on us. "Hey Athena," my brother greeted. I looked up and saw the girl from the hospital. She was wearing a white buttoned up shirt with a black skirt. Her curly hair was tied back, allowing the light to hit all of her clear skin. I smiled at her, wanting to get her attention. She glanced over at me but never made eye contact.

"Hi Grayson," her voice was so soft and quiet like she didn't want to talk at all. The sound of her voice was so angelic to me, I loved the sound. "What can I get you?" Her eyes were concentrated on my brother and I felt an odd feeling eating at my stomach. I wanted her to look at me. I wanted her to smile at me again. I just wanted to know her name. My brain clicked when I realized that she was wearing a name tag, so I connected my eyes with the name on her shirt. It said "Athena." My brother told the pretty girl his order, now she had to look at me. "What can I get for you?" She asked sweetly, staring into my eyes. I felt that odd feeling in my stomach again, I was already getting addicted to this girl. Who was she to me? Was she ever anything? I knew in my heart that there was something between us, I don't react like this to anyone. I wanted to reach out and touch her soft looking skin. To kiss her plump lips. I licked my lips in a dreamy haze, fantasizing about the girl in front of me.

Grayson kicked me under the table to snap me out of my trance that Athena put me under. "I-uh- "I cleared my throat to make it less obvious that I was staring at her and daydreaming about doing things to her. "I would like a cheeseburger with fries, please. No onions. Also, a Coca-Cola." She snapped her head down to her notepad, writing down my order. I took a breath and a chance to mention the hospital. "You're the girl from the hospital, right?" I asked. Her head snapped up, staring at me again.
