Chapter 8
*Nathan's Point of View*
History class was deadly boring, all the teacher did was talk. He would rarely give us papers, we had to record everything he said. I was about to fall asleep until I heard a phone ring with a text. I looked over and saw it was Athena, her eyes were concentrated on it then slammed her phone on the desk. She stood up, banging the chair in the process. All of our classmates stared at her. "Yes, Miss. Adams?" The teacher asked. Athena didn't answer and walked out of the room, leaving her stuff behind. "Athena!" The woman yelled.
The beautiful girl came back into the room for a split second to scream Russian slang at the teacher before disappearing again. The class continued without Athena, but I was curious. My desk was directly next to the door. I slid out of the chair, grabbed my bag and left to find Athena. My footsteps echoed in the empty hallway which didn't make me sneaky. When I approached the office area, I saw a man with Athena. He was in his mid to late 20's, his body was full of tattoos. They were in a heated argument but I couldn't understand because it was all in Russian.
"Stubborn just like your mother," the man chuckled. This only fueled Athena's anger, her face was red. Neither of them saw me while I watched their argument.
"Oh, I wonder why! It's not like you are a convicted murderer or anything!" She yelled sarcastically. I have never heard her speak so loudly, she always kept her voice to minimum volume. "Valentin, leave," Athena growled. The man shook his head, the girl laughed like a lunatic. She then proceeded to kick him where the sun doesn't shine, he doubled over in pain. Once he was on the floor, she kicked him in the stomach and punched him in the face. "If you don't leave right now, I will make sure you don't live to see tomorrow."
Valentin struggled to get up, when he did, Athena pulled him by his hair. She opened the front door to the school and pushed him out. The angry schoolgirl yelled more Russian slang at him, making him laugh. She rushed into the office and started yelling at the receptionist. "What is wrong with you?! You just allowed a murder to walk into this school! What if he hurt the students that go here?! That would be on your conscience, not mine!"
The young blonde woman tried to calm Athena down, but clearly, it didn't work. "Please calm down, sweetheart. I didn't know-" She began to say but Athena kept screaming at her.
"Of course you didn't know because you didn't ask for his I.D. did you? He is on the list to not enter this school! You fucking idiot, he could have hurt someone! He's not mentally stable!" The girl of my dreams was about to jump on the woman but I grabbed her. She struggled in my grip.
"Athena, calm down! He's gone now. He didn't hurt anyone." I assured her. She took a deep breath, to fix her irregular breathing. Her hand went to her heart again like she did when I said those rude things to her. She started yelling at me in Spanish for me to let her go and other things I didn't truly understand.
"Not yet," then she walked out of my grip and the office. The receptionist looked like she was about to pass out. I didn't give her another glance, I went to Athena who was walking out of the school. I yelled out her name but she didn't turn around. Smoke was in my face, Athena lit up a cigarette for the hundredth time. She sped up her walking speed to get away from me. I ran up to her then grabbed her arm. I saw her face and I knew this wasn't Athena that I knew. Her eyes were dark with rage, breathing was hard as if she was struggling to breathe.
My body worked before my brain, I pulled her into a bear hug. She struggled at first but then stopped and embraced it. Her breathing went back to normal but her eyes were still tinted with anger. "Are you okay?" I asked. She shook her head. "Who was that?" Her hands rolled into fists from hearing the question. "It's okay, you don't have to answer that."
