Chapter 23

~Anna's POV~

Within another week, with extreme determination, I pulled off rehab and was allowed to go home. Finally. Doc Emma gave me weekly appointments, told me eat loads which was a piece of cake for me, and also advised me to start school from next week to give rest to my legs a bit, next week being five days away.

I arrived home and directly went to sleep, not even bothering to set an alarm or something or even changing into my PJs. My own bed welcomed me with warmth that made me sleep in an instant and for more than thirteen hours because when I woke up the next day, it was noon.

Scratching my back I went downstairs and saw only Max, trashing his eyesight on the television. I yawned and sat beside him.

"Hey sis."

"Yo.." I was still sleepy.

"Itachi-nii said he would come after school as usual." My brother informed me and I nodded.

"I will go and shower then." With that I left and took a really long shower, considering I was extremely lazy and my muscles rested for more than they usually did. Changing into loose trousers and an oversized shirt, I went into the kitchen and tied the apron. "Max you wanna eat something?!" I asked from the kitchen.

"Give me whatever you are making!" He replied back. And I got to work. I pulled out some juice, fruit cakes, eggs, chicken pieces and some noodles, putting all the savory stuff in one pot, adding spices and mixing it all with tomatoes, chilly and ginger-garlic paste.

After I was done, I plated it all into two with the cakes on one side and the burning red noodles on the other and gave one to Max, sitting down beside him for breakfast.

"There isn't enough chilly." I noticed, sprinkling some more and resuming my meal. Max looked at me oddly. His face was sweating from the heat.

Washing the dishes and loosening my hair, I too occupied the spot beside my brother for watching TV but it wasn't long before I fell asleep, again. It was the sound of the bell ringing that I woke up with a jolt and looked at the time.

6:00 PM

"Sis its Itachi-nii!" Max yelled from the door and I wiped my eyes, getting up from the couch and smoothing my clothes.

"Yeah send him in." I told him and went to get my books, quickly returning to the living room, not wanting the guy to wait. "Yo~"

"Looks like you just woke up."

"I actually did. I keep sleeping. Kinda annoying." We sat on the big couch and placed the books on the table, shooing Max from the room.

"Its good. At least you are getting enough rest."

"Hmm."

"Oh, the first term exams are just a month away. So if there is something that I couldn't tutor quite right, you better ask other people for it. And are you preparing your notes?" Itachi said, looking at his textbook. I was listening and not listening at the same time. "Anna!"

"Yes? What? The terminals. Yes. Mm yes I have notes. Nothing to worry about." I answered all at once. He furrowed his brows.

"You feeling OK?"

"I don't know. Maybe I was away from school for too long. Can't really focus on stuff since yesterday."

"Once you are back on your routine, it will be fine."

"I guess so..." I yawned, again. "So, English right?"

English was eassssyyyy for me. I lived in America for quite a lot of years so I knew it like the back of my hand. When Itachi left, I assembled all of my books and went through what else needed to be done. Itachi made an excellent tutor but I still needed to put some of my own effort to ace through the exams.

The most difficult part was to readjust myself to the medium of instructions. First I studied in Japanese, then when we shifted to the States medium changed into English and now back to Japanese, it was a bit challenging but not impossible.

All my days and nights off, I studied earnestly, making notes, pointing out things I needed more explanations on, gathering extra study material or easy ways out from the internet. I was enjoying staying at home and studying but then came Monday and I had to go to school. Not that I didn't like going there but I was dreading the walk. I still hadn't been back on routine so it was a bit tiring, waking up on the alarm and changing clothes and washing my face first thing in the morning. But it had to be done.

With lazy steps, I went to school where friends and classmates were happy to see me back. Some teachers too, including Hatake-sensei whose smile was very visible underneath his mask.

"Good to have you back Anna." A classfellow greeted, passing by towards the cafeteria during recess.

"Thank you." I answered politely. A few other people also did so.

"I was only here for like a week or two and still so many people remember me. What gives?" I asked Itachi with whom I was walking. Konan was still absent.

"You are special." I lifted my head proudly and grinned then something struck.

"In a good way or a bad way?"

"Figure that out on your own." I huffed and got myself a seat to start devouring my meal.

Rest of the term passed like this and without much delay came the exams which I strangely excelled at. I was second on the board hoisting the top hundred positions. Itachi was the first. This defeat made me want to work harder than before to achieve first position next time.

After the term was summer break, the vacations I looked forward to and not looked forward to at the same time. I hated hot weather, it always made me sleepy and tired. But the gang was planning something to do in the vacations.

I wonder what.
