"There's the baby." The doctor pointed to a small circle on the monitor screen.
"Ohmigosh. It all feels so surreal now." I started tearing up. Jughead held onto my hand tightly.
"Yup. Well, it's very real." The doctor laughed. "Would you like a few copies?"
"Yes please." I nodded as fast as I could.
"Alright. I'll go print those out for you right now." The doctor headed off somewhere. I laid on the cold seat, wearing nothing but a stupid hospital gown. I looked up at Jughead, who was intensely staring at the screen, a humongous smile written on his face.
"Look, daddy! The baby is right there." I teased.
"Daddy?" He then turned to look at me in confusion. "Now, that's where it's getting weird." He thought for a moment. I just laughed at him. "Daddy?" He said slowly. "Anyways." He shook his head. "You're going to be a mommy, soooo."
"It's so weird to say." I crinkled my nose.
"See! It's not just me." Jughead teased, then kissed me on my forehead. "I'm so excited, Bets." He whispered, as his lips lingered inches away from my head.
"Me too." I whispered back. Then the doctor came back into the room and handed us the copies of the ultrasound. He explained that I was roughly only 4 weeks along. I had like 38 more weeks to go. He also explained that miscarriages are always a giant possibility until after about 9 weeks. In other words, we should keep the pregnancy on the down low for another month and a half.
"Should we go out to lunch and celebrate?" Jughead asked excitedly. I grinned at him, as I held onto his arm.
"Sure, but remember we can't tell people that we're pregnant yet." I replied.
"Pop's?"
"Of course! Where else?" I laughed. I held on tightly to his arm, as we walked through downtown Riverdale. "We should start thinking about names."
"Yeah? Ok. Hmmm." Jughead thought silently for a minute. "Should we start with girl's names?"
"Sure."
"Alright, how about Ella? It starts with an E, like Elizabeth." Jughead offered, as he opened the door to Pop's. I walked inside.
"That's not bad. I also really like Juliet." We sat down in our usual booth. Since we're both cheesy, we decided to sit next to each other in the booth, instead of across from each other.
"I kind of like it? Ummm ok. How about Zinnia? That's a unique name and a unique flower?" Jughead suggested.
"Ok. I could do that. Or even Jackie? Jaqueline? Ooh or Charlotte!" I exclaimed, probably a little louder than I should have. Thankfully, no one else was in the restaurant besides Pop Tate. Speaking of Pop Tate, he came around to take our orders.
"Hey kids! How's it going today?" He asked us.
"Pretty swell, actually, Pop. How about yourself?" Jughead replied.
"Not too bad, not too bad. What can I get you guys today?"
"Ummm I'm thinking the usual. Two cheeseburgers, a strawberry milkshake, and a vanilla milkshake." Jughead said.
"Sure thing, kids"
"Thanks, Pop!" Pop left to put our order in.
"It's weird having him call us 'kids' now, isn't it?" I laughed.
"Yeah, but he's still like a million years older than us. He would've referred to us as that even if we were a decade older and in the same situation."
