CHAPTER TWELVE
THE FOLLOWING DAY, Elena, Breana and Bonnie were walking down the school's hallway when they caught sight of Matt and Caroline, and it looked like they were actually enjoying each other's company. With the way Caroline was acting, Breana could see that she liked Matt.
Elena narrowed her eyes to see clearly and raised both of her brows as Matt and Caroline walked into their classroom together, "Did I miss something?"
"They've been hanging out." Bonnie informed.
Breana felt guilty, she has been so caught up with vampire and witchy problems that she didn't even have time to settle down and talk to Caroline. She didn't even know that she and Matt were hanging out, until now.
"Kind of weird, don't you think?" Elena said.
Bonnie shrugged her shoulders, smiling slightly, "She needs someone nice like him, as opposed to a homicidal vampire like Damon."
Breana winced slightly and looked at Bonnie, "Yeah, how are you doing with that?"
"I'm freaked out." Bonnie admitted honestly, "Damon attacked me. I could be dead right now." She said, "But, I'm also grateful." Breana hummed, "To Stefan." She smiled, "He saved my life and...have you seen him?" She asked carefully.
Elena went to her locker, removing her scarf, listening as the other two talked and gave Breana an expectant look, Breana sighed, "Not since he told me he was leaving." She said, feeling upset, "For all I know, he's already gone." She muttered as Elena went to her locker and opened it.
After Stefan talked to Elena that night, Stefan had called her about leaving and that he and Elena were officially over, which made her happy at some point but then she remembered that he was leaving. She was upset and talked to Elena about it since she's the only who could understand how she felt about Stefan leaving.
Things were a little bit awkward between them, but Elena was slightly trying to understand that Stefan liked Breana and she liked him back and that she was the one holding them back and the whole vampire situation.
"He wouldn't leave without saying goodbye." Elena said, trying to comfort Breana, brushing away the weird feeling she was having about the thought of Stefan and Breana together.
Breana simply scowled, "Yes, actually, he would. He thinks he's protecting me—us. Clean break and all that." She snapped as she watched Elena put her bag and scarf in the locker, grabbing some books before slamming it close.
"So, what are you gonna do?" Bonnie asked.
Breana shrugged, "What am I supposed to do?" She asked rhetorically, "I've already begged him, you guys." She said, tears shining in her eyes, "I didn't even care if I came out desperate, I just need him, he's my best friend, but if I ask again, I'm just being selfish." She stated, shaking her head, "It is what it is." She whispered sadly.
They started walking down the hallway again as Bonnie and Elena looked at the younger girl just as sadly. Bonnie smiled in a way of comforting her, "Maybe it's for the best."
Breana stopped, looking at her in confusion, making the other two stop as well, "What? Why?" Breana asked, surprised by her statement..
"I mean," Bonnie shrugged, "What kind of future could you have had with him even if he stayed?"
Breana stared at Bonnie, speechless and sighed as she tucked her hair behind her ear when a banner fell down on of them that say The Promise of your Future. Breana held the banner and read it before glaring at Bonnie incredulously, "Bonnie." She whined, looking down at the banner.
