CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

BREANA AND DAMON were in the basement of the Salvatore boarding house, standing behind the locked cellar where Stefan lay as the brunette watched him through the bars of the cellar's door in sadness at the sight of the person she loved so weak and defenseless.

"It's so hard to see him locked up like this." Breana said sadly, her hand on the door.

"I know." Damon muttered sarcastically.

Breana rolled his eyes at the sarcasm, turning to face the blue eyed vampire, "You're the one who locked him up." She snapped.

"I couldn't have him running around chewing on people while the town was looking for vampires, now, could I?" Damon retorted, looking down at her as he leaned against the wall.

Breana raised an eyebrow, putting a hand on her hip, "It had nothing to do with you actually caring about him?"

"Your thing, not mine." Damon snorted, walking away, leaving her alone in the basement.

Breana looked after his retreating figure with her arms crossed before turning back to the cellar and looking at Stefan, "I'm sorry for letting them do this to you." She whispered as Stefan was lying on his side, his back facing the door Breana was looking through.

Breana was back upstairs in the parlor with Damon, who has his back towards her and looking at the pocket watch intently, turning it around with his hand, trying to know what it does.

"Did you even figure out what that is?" Breana asked, walking up from behind him.

"Nope." Damon answered, still looking at the back of the pocket watch as if trying to read something from it, "Whatever it is, it doesn't work."

Breana sighed deeply, "Pearl didn't say anything else about it?" She asked as she walked towards the couch and grabbed her bag.

"She thought she was stealing his vampire compass, but that was a pocket watch." Damon said as he continued to study the pocket watch, "That Johnathan Gilbert was a crazy scientist." He said, "Have you spoke to Elena about his uncle lately?"

Breana shook her head, grabbing her clothes and started folding them to put them in her bag, "For all I know, she's been avoiding him, actually. That—and I don't have time to talk to her since I've been here most nights." She said, "Also, I'm currently pissed at her, oh and also you." She said, smiling at him bitterly.

Damon rolled his icy blue eyes, "So, you'll be here again tonight?" He grumbled, his head turning to the side, looking at her with his back still facing her.

"Is that a problem?" Breana looked up from her back and raised an eyebrow at him.

Damon finally turned around to face her, "Yes." He said, "You're a complete nuisance."

Breana scoffed, smiling slightly at him causing him to smirk at her, "I'll see you later, Damon." She said, walking closer to him and patting his chest before leaving.

Breana sat down on the edge of her bed as she put down her bag, getting her phone out from her pocket and called Damon, "What?" He answered rudely causing Breana to roll her eyes.

"I'm just grabbing some clothes, and then I'll be right over." She said, "How's Stefan?" She asked, standing up and walking over her dresser.

"Extra broody, hold on." Damon muttered, he put the call on hold and Breana waited for a few seconds before he took it off hold and started talking, "He won't eat anything." He said.
