CHAPTER TWENTY

BREANA RUSHED DOWNSTAIRS as she called out for Brendon to wait for her, the disadvantage of not having her car back yet, was that she had to catch a ride with Brendon

As she reached Brendon's car, he threw her an arrogant smirk, "Oh, how the tables have turned." He teased.

Breana glared at him and hopped in the passenger seat, turning her head to see if Ben was buckled up, just in case. She turned back to Brendon once she was satisfied to see Ben had his seatbelt on, "Do you have be such a jerk?" She muttered bitterly, buckling her seatbelt.

Brendon started driving, one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the console, "No, I just want you to know how my life has been since we got our own cars."

"You're nineteen, Brendon." Breana started, "You should be driving your own car instead of always hitching a ride with your younger sister."

"I should be in college, but look where I am now." Brendon exclaimed with fake enthusiasm, "Still in high school because Tanner—rest his soul—thought that I wasn't taking my studying seriously." He muttered, "I'm just satisfied that I can still be on the football team."

"That's because you don't take it seriously." She said before shaking her head in disbelief and preceded on their main topic—driving, "You know, you're the only guy I know that doesn't want to drive his own car, or even driving for that matter."

Brendon shrugged his shoulders, "It's always better to have someone drive me. Then I can be on my phone the whole drive."

"Can you guys stop bickering?" Ben piped in, his face scrunched up in annoyance, "You always fight about the driving thing, it's getting old." He complained, "I swear when I get my own car and I can finally drive, it will be the happiest day of my life." He muttered to himself, throwing his head back on the headrest.

It was true, ever since his elder siblings got their own cars, that's what they've always bickered about—Brendon for not wanting to drive and always catching a ride with Breana, who always gets peeved at her brother's demands.

When they finally reached the school, Brendon parked the car and Ben jumped out of the vehicle in relief, mumbling incoherent words under his breath about his siblings as Breana got out of the car and purposely slammed the door hard making Brendon glare at her in frustration.

Breana walked in the school without giving her sibling a backward glance, she walked down the hallway and saw Matt and Elena talking, she started walking towards the two but paused briefly when she remembered that Vicki's body was found by Caroline in the woods.

They went to her funeral and Breana felt like it wasn't right for her to be there since she was one of the reasons that Matt's sister died. Vicki's death was told to be because she overdosed, but she of all people knows that it wasn't.

Breana sighed in guilt and shook it off before approaching the two exes.

"He said his trip is open ended." Breana heard Elena tell Matt.

"Who?" Breana asked.

Elena sighed, "Uncle John."

"Uncle John, I never really liked that guy."

Breana made a face, "Does anyone?"

Matt let out a breathy laugh, nodding his head in agreement, "I'm here for moral support if you need me." He told Elena.

"Thanks, I think I'll suffer this one alone; you've been through enough." Elena said softly, giving the blonde a sympathetic look.

Breana nodded her head in agreement and put a comforting hand on his shoulder as Matt gave Elena a grateful look, "Thank you by the way, for just...for everything you did at Vicki's funeral and the memorial. I couldn't have done it without you."
