Hank and Tess have arrived at Sam's house in Emporia, Virginia. They came all the way from Cromwell, Connecticut. It was a such a long drive, but it was worth it. They both got out of the car. "My legs are killing me!" moaned Tess.
"Honey, we stopped at a lot of service areas!" said Hank. "And you're still complaining about your legs killing you?"
"I'm kidding, dear!" giggled Tess. "I love to joke around with you, honey bunny!"
"That's the girl I married!" chuckled Hank.
Hank saw his Sam's dog outside. He was chained, so he wouldn't chase anyone away. He wasn't allowed in the house. Hank knocked on the door. "I'm coming!" called Sam. "Don't go away! I'm coming!"
Sam opened the door. "Hello!" he chuckled heartily. "Glad you two could make it! How ya doing, Hank?"
"I'm doing good, Sam!" said Hank. "Sure is hot out here!"
"Get out of that heat, boy!" demanded Sam, jokingly. "I don't want you to fry like a tomato, now! How ya doing, sugar?"
"I am just fine, Sam!" said Tess. "Nice brick house!"
"Thank you kindly, Ma'am!" said Sam. "Come on in, and get out of this heat. I got the ac on!"
Hank and Tess stepped inside Sam's house. They both had a seat on the couch in the living room. The air conditioner was on full blast. It was a hot summer day in Virginia. Temperatures were in the 90s.
"How was your trip?" asked Sam.
"It was okay for the most part," said Tess. "We ran into some traffic in Richmond."
"It figures," said Sam. "Would you like a drink?"
"Glass of water, please," said Tess.
"How about you, Hank?" asked Sam.
"Root beer, please," said Hank.
"I don't have any root beer," said Sam. "I got some ginger ale, though.
"That will do," concured Hank.
Sam went into the kitchen to get a glass of water for Tess, and a can of ginger ale for Hank. He gave them their drinks. They both thanked him.
"Y'all hungry?" asked Sam.
"Yes we are!" said Hank.
"You want some pasta?" inquired Sam.
"Yeah, pasta sounds great!" beamed Tess.
"Okay, I'll go cook the pasta right now," said Sam. And he went back to the kitchen to cook some pasta for Hank and Tess. The pasta was ready. He added the sauce. "Pasta's ready!"
Hank and Tess got served some pasta. "This is delicious!" exclaimed Tess.
"Yup!" nodded Hank.
It was now time for bed. Sam was getting the bed ready for Hank and Tess. He put on clean sheets, and clean covers. He had a night light in the room where they would be sleeping in. Hank and Tess brushed their teeth, and got ready for bed. Sam came to check on them. "Y'all alright?" he asked.
"Yes!" Hank and Tess replied in unison.
"The air conditioner will turn on and off through the vents here," said Sam. "Would you like me to close the door?"
"Yes, please," said Tess.
"Okay, goodnight," said Sam, turning the lights off, and closing the door.
"It was so nice of Sam to let us stay here!" said Tess. "He's such a wonderful man!"
"He sure is, babe!" said Hank. "Good night, honey!"
"Good night, sweetheart!" said Tess kissing her husband. Then they both closed their eyes, and went to sleep.
