Ricky heard what happened down in New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast really hard. A lot of homes were destroyed, and many people were homeless. It saddened him to watch the news of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He decided to volunteer by cleaning up any debris left from the storm. He joined the Red Cross. The Red Cross team left Connecticut to go down to Louisiana.

Ricky arrived in Louisiana. He got right to work. He removed some fallen tree branches. He gave out some medical supplies to some people that needed them. He also went to some shelters to sing to them. He was playing some songs on his guitar. Ricky was being so generous. The people were being cheered up.

"You are a good man!" said an elderly lady.

"I only do what I can to help!" chuckled Ricky. "It's what I do."

Ricky was being well know throughout Louisiana. He helped people get back on their feet, when FEMA wasn't doing their job. Ricky was in the newspapers. Word spread about his very helpful nature.
