Robert was at the art museum with his friends, Kevin, Tiffany, and Jillian. Robert was looking at a painting of a lake with a woman gazing at it. He was very impressed.
When Robert was done looking at the paintings, he tried looking for everyone. But his friends were nowhere to be found. "They didn't leave without saying good bye to me did they?" wondered Robert. "I can't seem to find them anywhere.
Robert looked one more time. Still, no sign of them. He gave Kevin a call. "Hello?" asked Kevin.
"Are you guys still here?" asked Robert. "I am looking for you."
"No, we left already," said Kevin. "We didn't want to wait for you, so we just left and went to Wendy's."
"Why didn't you tell me you were going to Wendy's after the art museum?" demanded Robert, fuming. "Why did you leave me out like that? I thought I was your friend."
"Oh quit whining, Robert!" said Kevin. "You're too slow anyway. "Ain't that right girls?" Robert could hear the girls agreeing with Kevin, and laughing.
"You guys know I don't drive!" said Robert. "How am I supposed to get home?"
"Just walk!" said Kevin. "It looks like it wants to rain soon, so I were you, you better run home! Ha ha ha!"
"I didn't even bring an umbrella," said Robert.
"Too bad!" laughed Kevin. "Later, loser!"
After Kevin hung up on Robert, he just sat down, and thought about how he was gonna get home. He was also upset that his only friends bailed on him to go to Wendy's. The thought of that made him want to cry. But he fought back tears.
Just then, someone came up to him. It was an elderly lady. "What's wrong, dearie?" she asked. "Are you all alone?"
"My friends just left me here all by myself," said Robert. "They went to Wendy's without me."
"That was downright rude of them!" said the elderly lady. "Very uncouth if I do say so myself. Do you drive?"
"No I don't," said Robert.
"Are you hungry, dear?" asked the elderly lady.
"Very hungry!" said Robert.
"I can give you a ride to anywhere you want," said the elderly lady. "My name is Pat. "What's yours?"
"Robert," he replied.
"Nice to meet you, Robert!" said Pat. "Where would you like to go to eat?"
"Burger King sounds good," said Robert.
"Burger King it is!" said Pat. "Come with me, Robert. "I'll give you a ride to Burger King."
"Thank you so much, Pat!" said Robert. "You really got me out of this rut."
"Don't mention it, dear," chuckled Pat. "Sorry about your friends. They seem pretty unkind. Leaving you like that. Think it's time you got some new friends."
"I agree," nodded Robert. "Will you be my friend?"
"Of course, dear!" said Pat.
"Gee thanks!" exclaimed Robert.
"Of course, honey!" said Pat. "Come under my umbrella. It's raining out."
So Robert left the museum with Pat, and got into her 1983 Cadillac DeVille coupe. Robert admired the color.
"Red is a nice color for a car that big!" said Robert.
"Sure is!" chuckled Pat. "Drives like a dream."
Pat put on the windshield wipers, and drove Robert to Burger King. Then Robert's phone rang. It was Jillian.
"Where you at, loser?" sneered Jillian.
"What's it to you?" barked Robert. "I left the museum with this nice old lady. And she is taking me to Burger King. So there."
"Why you hanging out with old people for?" scoffed Jillian.
"Jillian, just leave me be!" I said.
"What's wrong honey? Is that one of your friends?" asked Pat.
"Yes!" said Robert. "She called me a loser."
"Put the phone on speaker so I can give her a piece of mind!" said Pat. "Darn kids have no respect these days."
Robert put the phone on speaker so Pat could speak to Jillian. "You listen here, young lady!" said Pat. "You don't call anyone a loser. Especially Robert. He told me everything, and what you did was so rude."
"Well, Grandma, he was too slow!" said Jillian. "And Robert shouldn't be hanging out with old witches like you."
"Excuse you, young lady!" snapped Pat. "But you don't talk to me like that. I am way older than you, and you need to learn to respect your elders! You kids have no darn respect anymore."
"I'm not a kid!" snapped Jillian. "I am 23 years old, and I suggest that you treat me like an adult."
"You tell your other buddies what I said," said Pat. "Robert is a nice young man that didn't do anything wrong."
"Did I say he did anything wrong?" said Jillian, getting an attitude. "Turn your hearing aid up!"
"You ungrateful miser!" barked Pat. "This conversation is over! Have a good day!"
Robert hung up on Jillian before she could infuriate Pat even more. "Just ignore Jillian," said Pat. "She's not very nice. And neither are your other friends."
"Not at all," said Robert. They made it to Burger King. Pat paid for Robert's food. He got a 10 piece nuggets with lots of BBQ sauce, two bacon double cheeseburgers, and a large Cherry Sprite. And Pat got a Whopper, fries, and a large Diet Coke. After that, Pat drove Robert home. They exchanged numbers so they could stay in touch. A good friendship was now blossoming between them.
