Erica was doing some volunteer work at a soup kitchen for the hungry. She wished she would get paid for it. But it was better than nothing. There were different kinds of soup. Chicken, tomato, and minestrone. She had quite a bunch of mouths to feed today. The soup kitchen was very busy.

"Can I have some tomato soup, please?" asked a bearded man.

"Coming right up!" said Erica. She scooped some tomato soup into a bowl. "Here ya go, Sir!" beamed Erica.

"Thank you kindly!" said the bearded man. "You got any crackers?"

"Sorry, we don't have any," said Erica. "May I ask what your name is, please?"

"David," replied the bearded man.

"Pleasure to meet you, David!" smiled Erica. "I'm Erica!"

"So does this mean we are friends now?" asked David.

"Of course!" chuckled Erica. "I love meeting new folks."

"You seem like such a nice girl!" said David. "How long have you been working here?"

"I just started two days ago," explained Erica.

"Isn't that swell?" said David.

"Come on, eat your soup, before it gets cold!" giggled Erica. "Eat it, while it's nice and hot."

"But I don't want to burn my tongue!" complained David.

"Just blow on it," suggested Erica.

David blew on his hot soup. He ate some. "This soup is so hearty, and delicious!" he exclaimed. "Can I have a second helping?"

"You sure can!" beamed Erica.

After finishing his first helping, David got another bowl of tomato soup. He was no longer hungry.
