We walked across the stands, trying to find this Maya character. From what I've heard, she's a real pain.
"You guys will love her. She's just....unique." Adri pointed. "Oh, there she is."
I followed her finger and instantly lost my breath. If this was Maya, I don't know if I needed to be around her. Nia was gorgeous but Maya was overly attractive.
She had long braids, a strong expression that gave off mean girl energy, but she had such innocent eyes.
But much like Nia, she's a stud. Since she was too busy in her phone to notice our presence, Adri snatched an AirPod out of Maya's ear, causing her to oook up and see us standing there.
"Have you lost ya mind?" She spat. "Don't you ever snatch my shi-"
"Maya, this is Jamila and her brother Dakota. Y'all, this is Maya. The literal pain in my ass."
"Wassup bruh." Dakota said dapping the irritated woman up. "That's a fresh ass jacket you got on."
She looked down at he Carhartt puffer and smirked. "'Preciate it big homie."
Kota nodded and turned his attention to the field. "Aye who out here winning?"
"Westlake of course. We the best team in the state."
"I don't know. I heard some things bout Washington High so you knowww-" he threw his hands up and started laughing.
Maya shook her head. "Hell nah, Washington our biggest rivals out here."
"Word? When y'all play them?"
"We don't," she laughed, "team so reckless, every time we played them it ended in either a citywide fight or a shootout. Now we can't play them anymore, state rules."
"Damn, that's messed up." Kota chuckled.
Since when did he curse this much, dad would kill him if he heard him, I thought to myself. I sat next to Adriana who was a couple of seats down from them.
"Hey, why aren't you up there?"
Adri shrugged. "I'm into all that sports talk. It's not really my thing."
I nodded. "Well, Maya seems nice."
"Girl wait until you hang around her long enough. You'll be going crazy just like the rest of us."
We made small talk here and there until we landed back onto the topic of Westlake and school stuff.
"Do y'all catch the bus?"
"Nah I drive and they drive. What about you?"
"I have no idea. Bus, nigh catch a ride with my parents from time to time. I don't know."
"No worries, you can ride with me anytime you want. What block you on?"
"Chester's Court," I said hesitantly.
She widened her eyes and smiled. "Girl you live in them boujee houses, I see you. Parents must be rich as hell."
"Somewhat. My mom's an attorney and my dad's a pastor."
"Ahh so you're a preacher's kid huh?"
"Yup," I mumbled. "Hence why I don't know much about a lot of things."
"Don't worry. I'm gonna help you break out of this shy shell. Because if I were you I'd want me to help me too."
She stopped and thought about what she said causing us to burst out laughing.
