"What's wrong with my son?"
I bit my tongue looking at the surgeon as he pulled up a chair, sitting in front of us.
"The accident damaged him both internally and externally."
"How so?"
"As the car flipped, he knocked his head against the window and made a gash on his left temple. As we continued to examine him, his chin was also cut and had to be sutured."
"Doc - stop lingering on the small details. What's the real damage of my boy?"
He sighed and looked at mom. "A long piece of debris impaled him through his left shoulder, a smaller piece through the right side of his chest."
My mom dropped her head into her hands and sobbed. I wiped my fallen tears as Adri consoled my mother the best she could.
"We were able to remove the item on his chest and sutured him up just fine. However, the one that impaled him in his left shoulder somehow bent and was found five centimeters away from his heart."
My mom continued to cry as Ryan held onto me.
"While we were in surgery, he lost consciousness and stopped breathing, causing his heart to stop pumping for eleven seconds."
I cried into Ryan's shoulder, trying to hold myself together.
"Luckily, we were able to revive him and we cleaned up just fine with sutures. Internally - he broke two ribs and lost a lot of blood from his impalement."
I scrunched up my face, thinking of the way that might look. "Oh my God."
"The second biggest issue of this accident was that when he knocked himself unconscious, he established retrograde amnesia."
"Retrograde amnesia?"
"Yes, he has no collective memory of the accident or anything that happened last night."
"At least it isn't long-term amnesia," I said, wiping my tears.
"Yes. He's out of surgery and currently still sleep under anesthesia. Other than some minor scratches here and there he's in good condition. He's being taken to the PACU in thirty minutes. You are more than welcome to see him then."
My mom jumped up and hugged the surgeon, smiling.
"Thank you for saving my boy."
"Glad I could help ma'am. You all have a nice day."
He smiled and walked out of the waiting room as we all cheered in our own way. Thank you God for keeping my brother safe.

"Thank you, we'll be there Tuesday for sure. Okay, bye."
I hung up with a worker at this apartment complex in Jersey. I had enough pocket money to rent this next one for two weeks, the complex I'm at now said they'd give me thirty percent of my down payment back. Shit, good enough for me.
I got up from the kitchen island and walked to my room, seeing the door was somewhat cracked. Dinah was laying on the bed watching TV.
I knocked on the door and she looked over at me, muting the TV.
"Hey."
"Hey."
"I um, I got us a new place down in Jersey. Agent says we can move in Tuesday."
"Great. I'll pay for the moving company."
"Oh no, this ain't my shit. This an Airbnb."
"Oh. Well, when do you want to start packing your stuff?"
