Jamila's P.O.V.
"Thanks for walking with me Jalen. I appreciate it." He smiled and shook his head.
"No problem. I go to work in ten so this was a stroll for the both of us. Just glad I had somebody to walk with for once."
I smiled a little as I watched Adriana sip on a soda sitting on the trunk of her car.
"That's ya ride?" He asked.
"Oh no, that's my friends."
"Ah, so this ya free block too huh?"
"Yeah. First day at work and stuff." He nodded fixing his book bag on his shoulder.
"Where ya work?"
"In the mall." He chuckled a little causing me to frown. "What's funny?"
"Nothing. Sorry, I'm just not used to seeing a melanin queen so well put together."
"Really," I said unmoved by his words.
"Yeah. Most girls I see walk through this school are somewhere on the streets selling or giving you know. Hard to find a woman that really got her life together."
"Trust me, my life ain't put together all the way. I've been through quite a bit myself."
We made it to Adri's car and he grabbed my wrist making me look back at him.
"Well, I'm glad some people don't look like what they've been through." He smiled making me laugh a little.
"Jamila. You trying to be late on the first day?" Adri said looking Jalen up and down.
"Sorry. Um, I guess I'll see you tomorrow."
"I'll be waiting." He licked his lips and waved at Adri before walking away to his car.
"Girl get ya fast ass in this car. Talking to lil boys." I rolled my eyes and laughed as I got in the passenger seat.
"I was not being fast. We take a class together and just so happen to have the same work block."
"Isn't that the guy from church?"
"Yap." I blushed as she pulled out of the school's parking lot.
"Damn, he's fine."
"Really? Well thank God you got my brother."
"Girl, can we trade?" She whined speeding through a light.
"No," I said seriously trying not to laugh. "I've dealt with Dakota for dang near seventeen years. He's all your's sis."
"Dang it. Cause that little Hershey bar could be potential baby daddy number two next to ya brother."
I playfully rolled my eyes laughing at her.
"You sad."
"For real though, what class y'all got together?"
"Photography."
"Ain't that just cute." She said sarcastically.
"Don't be salty sis."
"I'm not. It's just weird I never seen him around school until today."
I shrugged. "Well, he told me he was here last year. You know church kids are incognito."
"Nah cause we can see you clearly," She laughed, "You are not slick."
"Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just know, I'm gonna pass my photography class."
"Why? Fucking for grades?" I frowned at her as she pulled into the mall parking lot.
"No. We sit next to each other and I'm sure we're going to have numerous projects throughout the year. We partnered up for our first one tomorrow. So boom."
