Jamila's P.O.V.
"How're you feeling....." I looked at all the broken glass and other unidentifiable objects on the hardwood floor. "What happened here?"
"Long story short, you don't wanna see how mad I can get."
"I bet. It looks like you got into a fight."
"Well, it's complicated."
"How complicated?"
"Cop came by my house."
"What for?"
"Um," She scratched the back of her neck and plopped down on the couch crying.
I sat next to her rubbing her shoulders.
"Jamila I trust you believe it or not. So anything I say cannot leave this room. Got it?"
"Of course."
"Promise me." She said looking in my eyes serious.
"I promise I won't say anything."
She ran a hand down her face and leaned back on the couch.
"They want me to rat out Dex."
"Dexter? Guy that works at the tattoo shop?"
"Yeah. He's the one that killed that girl the night of the party."
"What?"
"Yeah. I was the only one who saw it happen. Well, the only truthful one who saw it."
"Why don't you give him up?"
"But I ain't tryna snitch though. That's some rat shit."
"No, it's deeper than that to you."
"No."
"Yeah. Tell me what the real problem is Maya." She wiped her eye and stood up, stuffing her hands in her pocket.
"My uh.....My mom she uh....."
Her expression softened a bit.
"My mom was taken away from me when I was eight." She laughed trying her best trying not to cry.
"What happened to her?"
"My sperm donor was an ass. Used to abuse me and my mom. I walked into their room on Christmas Eve and saw him....." She wiped her face down and her expression turned angry.
"It's okay Maya."
".....He was beating and raping my mom. He didn't see me come in the room so I went into his duffle bag and pulled out his pistol."
I wiped my eyes that were now pouring out with tears.
"I shot him until there were no more bullets. He fell dead on the bed. My mama kissed and hugged me for what felt like hours. Then my aunt came and picked me up."
