Maya's P.O.V.
The Next Day
"Thank you, you can go sit at the visitor's tables over there." The officer told me.
I had come back to visit my mom, I couldn't stay away from her for too long it seems. I sat down at the table we were at the other day and sighed in anxiousness.
I looked down at my hands as I heard the gate buzz alerting me and the other visitors that the inmates were being released.
I stood up looking for my mom and smiled widely as she came through the gates.
"Mama!" I gave her a strong hug as she returned the gesture, kissing my cheeks every other second.
"Gosh, I missed you Maya."
"I've missed you too." I pulled back and smiled as she had this glow on her face that was somewhat infectious.
"What?"
"I've got great news." She held my hand as we sat down.
"What's the news? Don't keep me waiting."
She punched my wrist as I winced in pain. "Dang mama I'm sorry."
"Be quiet. Anyways, the news is - your plan is working."
I frowned. "What plan?"
"To get me out on early release? It's being finalized. Sweetheart, mama's coming home at the end of the month."
I sat back in surprise with tears welled up in my eyes. "W-What?"
"Mama's coming home." She smiled with tears streaming down her face.
I let mine escape as well as I gave her the biggest hug ever. "How is this possible?"
"They won't tell me the details but I know I've been working so hard here and haven't had any issues with the inmates or wardens. Maybe it's good behavior."
I laid on her shoulder, my mom was finally coming back home.
"I knew you'd be back ma." She laughed and ran her hands through my hair smiling.
"I knew so too Mija."
I pulled away from her embrace smiling at her again as she laughed.
"Now I can finally get some real food, this prison food is terrible."
I laughed. "Don't worry ma. Once we get back home, you'll have all the food you want. Maybe we can find somewhere for you to stay in Williamsburg and I can come visit-"
She frowned. "Oh, no Mija. I can't go back to Brooklyn."
"What? Why?"
"You know how our family feels about me. They'll kill me if they find out I'm back."
I scratched my head thinking of some logical answer. "Well, we could always go live with Aunt Linda."
"Linda? Oh no, no. She may be the only family member that is cordial with me, but she will never forgive me for what I've done."
"Mama she's your sister. She will understand."
She grabbed my cheek and smiled. "If you can get me there Mija, I will make amends with my sister. Just for you."
"No ma, don't do it for me. She's all we've got. You've gotta do it for you."
She sighed and nodded in agreement. "I guess you're right. When'd you become such an adult?"
I laughed. "I'm a big girl ma, I've grown up."
She laughed and kissed my cheeks once more. "I guess you're right."
It became silent as I looked around the room thinking about home. Nia, Adri, Aunt Linda, Ryan, Mila. I left them all behind.
"Uht uht, I know that face. What's going on?"
"Nothing." She twisted my skin around on my wrist causing me to shriek a little in pain.
"Don't lie to me Mija. What's really wrong?"
She released me and I sighed. "It's just I haven't been talking to anybody since I landed here."
"Nia? Linda?"
"No one."
"Why not?"
"Because I wanted to do this all on my own. No help, no interference. I wanted to look out for me and me alone. The Brook isn't the same as it used to be."
"Well baby, I think you should talk to them. You've been gone for too long and they are probably worried sick. Especially your Aunt Linda."
"I know, I just really wanted to come help you."
"And you have, I'll be free soon and then we can both go home. Your home."
"Our home mama." I gripped her hands tight.
"Visitation hour is over." An officer announced as the buzzer went off.
"I'll be back tomorrow."
"No you won't, you're going home Maya. Now. Go visit and come back at the end of the month to get me. Okay?"
"Okay ma."
"Don't lie to me Maya. I want you to go home. It's not safe out here."
"Okay ma. I hear you."
"Okay." An officer came and handcuffed her as she gave me a kiss on the cheek.
"I'll see you soon."
"I love you," I said with tears in my eyes.
"I love you too Mija."
She left through the gates and I sat back down wiping the tears from my eyes. I can't believe this plan really worked.
Time to head back to Atlanta.
Adri's P.O.V.
I laid on my bed and continued to cry as Ryan ran her hands through my hair.
"It's okay Adri you don't need him."
I cried harder. "It's not that I don't need him, but I actually liked him. Like really liked him and he just goes out and becomes this, this, whore."
"Adri you've got a lot going for yourself babe. You're beautiful, smart, vicious, I mean come on you've got it all."
"Bitch did you just call me vicious?" We laughed as she nodded.
"And you're funny. He's the one that's gonna miss out not you."
"Yeah, I guess you're right." She smiled and got up from my bed.
"I've gotta head back to school before lunch period is over but hey, don't sit around moping. You're gonna find someone who loves you for you. Got it?"
"Yeah, thanks cousin. You're the best."
I hugged her tight as she grabbed her bag from the floor. "I know I am."
I laughed as she walked out of my room and out the front door, locking it behind her.
I laid back and looked at the ceiling thinking about what Ryan said. I guess I am pretty amazing huh.
I guess it's time to make a comeback, make him wish he never fucked around on me.
