Jamila's P.O.V.
"Since when do you eat a lot?" I laughed at Ryan.
"Girl I love Chinese food. Like I could live off of this." She bit down on an egg roll, dipping it in some red sauce.
"Thanks for dragging me out of the house. I needed it."
"Girl don't mention it. We practically family. I never want to see family down or sad. Not if I can help it."
"It's just crazy how she left without a word."
"What did she say to you before she left?"
I leaned back remembering the last words Maya said to me.
"If I ever come back, I'll make you mine."
Just the thought of hearing her voice made me shiver. Of course, I didn't tell them everything she said to me.
"She told me she'd quit her job at Foot Locker. Said she'd see me later."
She shook her head. "That's so unlike her."
"Yeah," I said twirling my straw around in my cup.
"All we can do is pray. It's our senior year and we've got to stay focused. Maya's going to be back."
"I believe it. She loves you guys too much to leave y'all."
"Us? No girl, you mean you. She loves you just as much as she loves us. Your brother included."
I blushed at the thought of Maya being interested in me. Sure, I was still confused, but she was one of a kind.
Someone I'd like to get to know.
"Speaking of friends, how's it going with that guy in your photography class?"
I playfully rolled my eyes. "He's cool, a great partner."
"Really?" She said acting overly interested.
"Oh stop it. I'm not into him. He's a great guy though."
"Great guy. Great girl. Great relationship..."
"Nope. Not my type." I lied.
"Sure." She wiped her mouth on a napkin sighing. "I'm stuffed. Ready to go?"
"Uh yeah sure."
"Great. Well, I have to go get my amazing girlfriend an egg roll, or else I won't have a chest to lay on at night."
We laughed as she got up heading to the front counter. I grabbed my purse scrambling to find my house key.
I rolled my eyes as this lady who's been sitting behind me argued with someone on her phone. From the sounds of it, she must be law enforcement.
"Yes, I'm sure. Of course, I wasn't telling her the truth...We needed names David and you didn't seem to be getting any...Yeah, I gave her the name of the facility but that's it. She gave his name up just like that."
I frowned, moving in closer trying to be nosy.
"Look unless you're going to take a trip up to Brooklyn, shut the hell up and let me do my job...Nothing we can do, she's served her purpose."
She?
"David I have to go. Bad enough I'm eating out of this two-star Asian joint anyways. I'll see you at the office tomorrow morning. Alright."
She hung up, grabbing her purse before standing up fixing her skirt. I looked at her intently as she adjusted herself.
I guess she caught me looking at her because she stared right back at me.
