Maya's P.O.V.
I sighed heavily as I walked out of the basement, that wasn't how I thought my night would end.
I grabbed a few more chips from the kitchen before walking towards the front door, I was beyond ready to go back to the apartment.
"Hey leaving already?" I looked over at Dinah drinking another beer.
"Yeah, I have a headache, not really down for parties."
"Then I guess I won't be getting that dance after all."
I bit my lip thinking about an excuse of why I had to leave without hurting her feelings.
"Nah I won't leave you hanging. Let's go."
And before I could even grab her hand to take her to the floor, gunshots rang out outside of the house.
Everybody ducked and stayed on the floor while others left out the back door.
Tesoro and his guys started running but he came and grabbed me and Dinah's arm.
"You two get upstairs. It'll be safe for y'all." We nodded as he left with the guys, pushing past some people leaving the house.
I helped her up as we began our quick walk up the stairs.
"You know where his rooms are?"
"Yeah. We can go to mine."
"Oh, you got your own lil space huh." She laughed as we started walking down the hallway.
"Yeah, just in case I don't go home sometimes I crash here. Sometimes it's my hiding place."
"Word." I looked as she grabbed a key out of her pocket unlocking a gray door.
We walked into the room and I could believe it, it was definitely her room.
It wasn't dirty or anything and her perfume scent was heavy in the air.
"Nice spot you got here." She smiled.
"What? Not too basic for you?"
I chuckled putting my hand in my pockets. "Actually I thought I'd see makeup everywhere."
"You're such an asshole." She laughed. "I don't wear makeup all the time."
I nodded looking at her glowing brown skin. "That's good."
We stood there staring at each other before she threw her purse on her pillow. I kept looking around until she interrupted my room tour.
"I don't have many places to sit, so you can sit on the bed."
"Oh nah I'm good," I replied.
"Girl please, yo long-legged ass look like you about to catch a cramp. But that's on you."
She sat Indian-style at the top of her bed, checking her phone before plugging it up and scrolling on Instagram.
I decided that my legs did hurt a little from all that standing in the basement, but I wasn't finna sit on this girl bed I mean come on. I just met her.
"I hope this blows over soon. I actually wanted to go home tonight."
"I can take you home."
"Thanks, but I'm gonna call my brother and see if he'll come by."
I nodded and leaned against the wall by the door. "He in a gang?"
She laughed. "Not hardly. Him and his Hill Boyz or whatever they call themselves just have a little street crew going on."
