Maya's P.O.V.
8:23 A.M.
Next DayI slid down my wall rocking back and forth. My life was completely falling apart and I couldn't handle it.
I couldn't deal with today, I just needed some time and space.
I grabbed my bottle of Ciroc and took a huge gulp banging my head lightly against the wall.
"I know what happened to your mom."
Fuck...why do those words keep haunting me? I drank more trying to destroy the memory from my mind. My phone rang but I just let it ring.
I felt hot tears run down my face as my vision got blurry.
"FUCK!" I screamed in anger.
I kept drinking and the phone kept ringing. I drunk until I couldn't feel myself anymore.
Jamila P.O.V.
12:00 P.M.
"So, how's your day going?"
I sat down in my chair looking down at Jalen. "Good. Long and tiring, but good. How bout you?"
"A day. But it's gotten better." He said smiling.
I smiled before turning my attention to Ms. Atias who held folders in her hand.
"Alright class, today I will be giving you your portfolios so that you may keep up with your pictures easier."
I rubbed my forehead worried about Maya. I hope she was okay but then again, I knew she wasn't.
"If you know that you are going to be partnered with someone for the entire semester, please grab only one. Today's assignment is on the board."
She gave us our folder first as Jalen put our names on it.
"So you're my partner the whole semester?"
He looked at me fake saddened. "You plan on leaving me?"
I looked at his handsome pout and was forced to look away. "Not unless I want to."
"Trust me, you won't." He bit his lip as I looked away blushing.
I glanced at the board, seeing our assignment for today.
SMILING GOES A LONG WAY. CAPTURE A SMILING HEADSHOT TO START OFF YOUR PORTFOLIO.
I nodded thinking of different headshot ideas.
"We have to do a smiling headshot. You up for it?"
"God didn't give me this smile for nothing." He flashed it at me making me roll my eyes.
"Sure. Where to?"
"Art room has some backdrops. We can go there."
"Great. Should we tell Ms. Atias?"
"She knows, it's the perfect place for headshots."
"Okay. Let's start there."
We grabbed our backpacks and left out the room heading to the art room. I couldn't help thinking about Maya still.
She hadn't shown up and I had a feeling she wasn't okay. Ugh, control yourself Jamila.
"You like it here?"
"Huh?"
I tripped over my own foot as he grabbed my arm so I wouldn't fall. Thanks Maya.
"Uh, thanks Jalen."
