Chapter Nineteen
Penny’s POV:
I looked around the corner of the kitchen and gasped. Colton and Ryan were dressed in tuxedos. They looked great! Wait, I thought to myself, I’m mad at Colton! I can’t think he’s cute. I scolded myself for thinking such things.
“Why are you guys all dolled up?” I asked and everyone turned around to look at me. My face got a little red from all of the attention.
“Our Uncle is getting married tonight,” Ryan spoke before Colton could.
“You guys are related?” I asked, why couldn’t I tell before? They did look a lot like each other.
“Yup were first cousins,” Colton said smiling at me, “So go get dressed and meet us down here in an hour. I don’t want to be late,”
“Excuse me?” I said not knowing what else to say. He did not think that I was going to a wedding with him? Just like that? Hell no!
“Come on, get a move on,” He said raising an eyebrow, “And you too, Clover,” He said turning his head to look at her.
Clover raised an eyebrow and said, “Listen here, I’ll hit your head so hard your great grandchildren have migraines,”
Colton put his hands out in surrender and chuckled as Clover dragged me upstairs before I could say anything else.
“Hey!” I said being dragged up the stairs, “I thought we were going clubbing tonight?” I said crossing my arms as we entered my room.
A sheepish look flashed across Clovers face, “About that,” She said rubbing the back of her neck, “Please! Please! Please!” She pleaded grabbing both of my hands.
“Fine, but I’m not talking to him,” I said as she squealed and hugged me. She gushed and put me in a sky blue dress. It was gorgeous. It was a chiffon ruched A-Line. It had one shoulder strap that was sequins wrapping around the edge of the open back. It hugged the top of me and slowly drapped down to the floor, showing off the little curves I had. It was more beautiful than my prom dress.
Clover had a on a baby blue dress. It was a long halter A-line dress that had sleeveless straps. It had three stripes of jewels going across her body and a slit going up mid thigh making her legs look even longer than they were. The back was open with the three strands of jewels connecting it at the bottom. She looked more gorgeous than I felt.
“Where did you get these?” I asked breathlessly as I looked in the mirror.
“Colton and Ryan picked them out,” She said smiling widely at herself. I made a face at her when she shrugged.
“GIRLS? ARE YOU ALMOST READY?” I heard Colton yell up the stairs. I groaned. What was I thinking? He used me until his girlfriend got back from wherever she was.
“WE’RE COMIN!” I heard Clover yell as I jumped. She grabbed two pairs of the same shoes. They, like the dresses, were amazing. They were 5 inch heels, silver and sparkly.
We slipped them on and headed for the stairs. Clover’s hair was in loose curls falling down halfway on her back. Clover did the same hairstyle for me except my hair hung lower, closer to my waist than the middle of my back.
I smiled when I saw the guys faces as they looked at us walking down the stair, then quickly stopped knowing I was suppose to be mad. Colton’s face was comical. His mouth hung open and his blue eyes were wide. I couldn’t hold it in any longer and I giggled and he snapped out of it smiling at me.
Just because I’m smiling doesn’t mean I have to talk to him, I thought. When we got down the steps he pulled me in his arms and I stiffened. I didn’t want him touching me tonight. Sensing me stiff he let me go with a pout on his face. Oh grow up, I thought to myself.
“Alright, alright lets goooooooo! We’re gonna be late!” Ryan said nearly dragging Clover out the door.
We all walked to Ryan’s car in silence before Colton kept walking past Ryan’s car. “Wait I thought we were all driving together?” I asked stopping at Ryan’s car.
“I never said that,” Colton said over his shoulder with a smirk.
“Well I’m going in Ryan’s car,” I said as I went to open the back door. Clover and Ryan were already in the front. When I yanked the handle though it wouldn’t open. It was locked. Clover looked up at me with a smirk and shrugged and pointed to Colton’s car.
I groaned and then gave her a pleading look. She just looked away with a laugh. Whose side was she on? Dragging my feet, I walked over to Colton’s car with a scowl on my face.
I sat down with a huff and looked out the window refusing to look at him. He didn’t say anything as he started the car and backed out of the driveway.
“You’re gonna need to talk to me sooner or later,” He said sighing 10 minutes later. I shook my head. I never once looked at him since we got in the car.
“Fine then you’re just gonna have to listen,” He said. Damn, I gave him what he wanted. I didn’t want to hear a word that comes out of that boy’s mouth.
Not giving him any sign that I was listening, he continued. “Sarah was my girlfriend for a long time,” He said and I snapped my head over to look at him. Where was he going with this. I shot daggers at him with my eyes as he stared at the road refusing to look at me.
“Last year I got a phone call from Sarah saying she was on a plane,” He said in a monotone voice, “She said that she was moving to Pennsylvania and that we would never see each other again,” He said in the same tone, “She told me it was over on that phone call and never texted or called after that, so when she showed up on the doorstep the other day I was in complete shock. I didn’t know how to react and when I pushed her away from me you were already at the top of the steps,”
I frowned then sighed. So he didn’t cheat on his girlfriend with me? She broke up with him? I laughed to which he looked over at me with a relieved look and smiled back.
“I’m sorry,” I said looking down.
“You have nothing to be sorry for,” He said, “I was the one who came into your bathroom while you were showering,” He had a sheepish look on his face and I laughed again. He’s such an idiot sometimes.
“Don’t do it again,” I said pointing my finger at him and he smiled.
“I won’t!” He said putting his hands up in surrender before taking the wheel back in his hands.
We then pulled into a parking lot and I could see people in short dresses, long dresses, and poofy dresses. This was going to be an interesting night, I thought to myself as Colton opened the door and took my hand in his.
