Chapter Twelve
Colton’s POV:
After the girls left, Trevor and I made plans for the BBQ tonight. We decided to invite Ryan, of course, Stiles and Lydia, Jack and Allison and then let Gavin invite some of his friends. This was just going to be a small get together to hook Clover and Ryan up and for Penny to make new friends.
We texted everyone and everyone replied saying they could come and would be here. We went down the to the kitchen to see what they had and what we would need to be able to make hotdogs and hamburgers.
“Trevor, we have a pack of hotdogs, no hamburgers, and no buns for anything. Why don’t you call the girls to see if they can stop at the market,” I suggested looking over my shoulder at him leaning on the counter typing away on his phone.
“Sure,” He said not even looking up at me. I turned back around, took out a pen and a notepad and wrote down a list of what we needed because he obviously wasn’t listening to me. After I wrote it all down I put it right in front of his screen and said, “Call your mom,”
Finally getting the point he called her and she said it would be no problem to go to the market. After that we went outside to clean up the porch, clean out the pool, and cut the grass. By the time we finished the girls were pulling up into the driveway. Not getting a chance to sit down we went straight to the front door to help them bring the groceries in. I didn’t get to talk to Penny before I was handed 6 bags of groceries, 3 for each arm.
Struggling to carry them in while the girls grabbed their bags of clothes I brought the bags into the kitchen and rested them on the counter for Claire to put away in the correct spot. Realizing how badly I must have smelled I said my farewells and walked to my house to shower and get properly dressed.
The cold shower felt good against my overheated skin. It was tinted red from all of the chores we completed outside. I rubbed some lotion on the warm spots and got dressed in a light blue polo and tan khaki’s. I grabbed a bag and shoved a towel and bathing suit in it, along with my sunscreen and sunglasses.
I walked back to the Carter’s house carrying my bag on my shoulder. It was around 5:30 which means people should be coming in around a half an hour. When I walked in the door, I could feel lighter and more happy. I knew that I was going to get to see Penny soon.
“Hey guys,” I said walking into the kitchen to find snacks being poured into big party bowls. I quickly looked around the room and didn’t see Penny here. I frowned slightly.
“Hey, can you carry these out with me?” Trevor asked handing me two snack bowls and led the way out the door. We set them on the table and walked back inside.
“Oh honey! You look stunning!” I heard Claire say right before I walked in the door. When I stepped into the air conditioned kitchen I saw her. She was wearing a white and purple dress that made her look even more beautiful than she already was. She looked like she was glowing.
I walked over and kissed her and wrapped my arm around her waist. “Woah remember what I said there big boy,” I heard Clover say to the right of Penny. Clover looked amazing too, wearing a pretty white dress. She would definitely get Ryan’s attention in that, I thought to myself.
“Remember why we’re having this party,” I said pointing at her jokingly. She raised her eyebrow at me.
“Don’t point your finger at me or I’ll bite it off and throw it out the window,” She said. Everyone laughed and started moving around the kitchen. Stiles and Lydia were the first to show up and soon Lydia, Penny and Clover were all talking and giggling and doing whatever girls do.
