Chapter Twenty Three
Clover’s POV:
I was dancing with Penny having such a good time. I had a few drinks but when I looked around everyone seems to have had. Penny was suddenly picked up by Colton. Oh no he was not ruining my fun with her tonight, especially since he almost had with Sarah.
“What the hell?!” I said as he sat Penny down on one of the chairs at our table. Colton kneeled down next to her and felt her forehead. I frowned, what was he doing?
“Do you not see that Penny’s obviously not okay?” He shot at me snapping his head up but quickly gave his attention to Penny once again. I kneeled down right next to him, screw the dress I was wearing, it wasn’t important anymore.
Colton took her face in his hands as I asked worryingly, “What happened to her?” If that bitch Sarah did this to her, she is in for a world of pain.
“I think Tristan spiked her drink,” Colton said flatly looking up and frowning. I frowned then felt my face get bright red with anger. There is no way in hell he is going to get away with something like that! Especially since I’m dating his brother.
“I’m gonna beat that mother f-” I started but was cut off by Penny.
“Hey, I looooooove you guys,” She slurred, giggled and then fell into Colton’s open arms, to which he wrapped around her. Her bloodshot eyes drooped.
“We have to get her home,” Colton stated and I knew he was right. All I wanted to do was to go over to where ever Tristan was and kick him where the sun don’t shine.
“Where’s Ryan? I’m coming with you or driving with Ryan if he wants to bring me home,” I said standing and scanned the whole room before he finally caught my eye over at the bar. I stood up swiftly and made my way over to him. I lightly grabbed his arm and asked in his ear, “Penny’s not feeling well. Are you taking me home or do you want Colton to?”
He didn’t turn to look at me but he said, “Go with Colton,” and then nodded to something the bartender said. I felt a little sad he didn’t want to drive me home but I could tell he was drunk and I didn’t want either of us to get in an accident.
I walked back over to Colton and stated that I was going home with him. He nodded and swiftly picked Penny up and walked her over to his car. I helped him lay her down in the back seat and took the passenger seat.
I kept my phone on my lap incase Ryan texted, which I hope he did. I couldn’t help but feel worried for him too because I needed to know he got home safely and didn’t do anything stupid. The ride back home was silent and I didn’t know what to say so I kept my mouth shut.
Once we got to the house Colton picked Penny up for the last time and carried her up to our room where he laid her sleeping form down on the bed and put a trashcan on the floor for easy access just in case.
“Go in the closet and pull out a pair of clothes for her, I’m not letting her sleep in an uncomfortable dress,” I ordered, hopefully not sounding too harsh. With a nod he went into the closet and emerged with a pair of sophie shorts and a simple tie dye tee shirt.
“Let me change her, go out in the hallway and I’ll tell you when I’m done,” I said taking the clothes in my hands. This was going to be a challenge.
“Do you need any help?” He asked and I frowned, I wish I could say yes but Penny would kill me if she knew I let him help me change her while she was asleep, especially since she wasn’t wearing a bra because of the open back.
“No, I think I’ll be okay,” I said and with a nod he walked out of the room closing the door behind him. I frowned and sighed. I sat her up and she slumped against my shoulder. I did the best to pull her dress over her head and slid her shirt and shorts on. Laying her back on the bed, I walked over to the door.
I slowly opened it and Colton jumped up and strode into the room. His eyes softened when he saw her laying there. He went over, tucked her into bed and kissed her forehead. I felt like I was intruding in a personal moment so I looked away and stood there awkwardly.
“Please stay with her tonight. Make sure she’s okay,” He said almost pleading to me. I nodded and looked at Penny. I really hope she’s okay. “She’s going to be okay, she just need to sleep it off,” He said reassuringly and then looked over at Penny, a flash of anger crossed over his face but was gone as soon as I saw it.
“I’m going to get her a glass of water,” Colton said and walked downstairs. I sat on the edge of the bed and picked up my phone. Still no text from Ryan. I bit my lip worriedly. I hope he’s okay too. I texted him ‘Please be safe’. Colton walked back in when I set my phone back on the bed.
“Watch her and I’ll be back in the morning,” Colton said and walked out of the room without any response from me. I sat down and looked at my phone again then to the sleeping Penny. I stood up, grabbed my phone and walked just outside of the door.
I dialled Ryan’s number and called him. It went right to voicemail meaning that his phone was off. I started pacing. His family’s with him and wouldn’t let anything happen to him, I thought to myself, trying to calm myself down.
I walked back into the room, walked into the closet and changed out of this dress. I threw my hair up in a ponytail and slid into bed clutching my phone. I didn’t go to bed right away, like I’d like to have. I kept my eyes glued to my phone and occasionally turned over to check on Penny who slept soundly.
I sighed and sat up. I needed to call Ryan again, I needed to know he was safe. I walked out of the room making sure I wouldn’t wake Penny up. I dialed his number yet again and it yet again went to voicemail right away.
I relentlessly walked back in the room and got back into bed. It was around 3 in the morning now. I finally felt sleep starting to take over my body and I welcomed it with wide open arms.
Not only but an hour later I heard Penny start to stir. I opened my eyes to find her on the floor and confused. I quickly sat up and found her crying and looking around. “Penny,” I said and she snapped her head to where my voice was coming from.
“Who’s there?” She asked her voice breaking. I could hear her sniffles. I got out of bed and said, “Penny, it’s just me, Clover,” I said and sat down with her on the floor. She was shaking, her eyes were wide and bloodshot, either from crying or still from earlier.
“Clover?” She asked and started to cry really hard. I pulled her into my arms and let her cry while I stroked her hair and talked to her in a calming voice.
When she finally slowed down her crying she hugged me back tightly, “What happened? I don’t remember anything, I thought I got kidnapped,” She sobbed again and I told her and what we thought happened and soon she was back to sleep. I dragged her back up to the bed, tucked her in and slip in next to her. I fell asleep instantly, forgetting to check my phone. Hopefully nobody will wake up early, I thought right before I fell asleep.
