Air pushes against my body as I slip.

Wait.

This time as I fall, my hands slam into something new. It's warm. Flat. And most importantly, it's not glass.

I stand again and take my last steps of pain. I made it out of glass! Sobbing in relief, I stumble forward. I'm out! But the happy moment doesn't last for long. Glass is embedded in every part of my body. My feet and knees and hands are razor blades.

"Kanna." A voice echoes throughout the room. It's a soft voice, a man's. I listen for a moment. My eyes widen as I realize that the crunching has stopped. "Where are you?" He talks almost rhythmically as if he's speaking the lyrics to a song. "Where are you Kanna?"

I'm Kanna.

I think.

Maybe?

I stand up again. The warning from before sits uneasily in my mind.

Don't let them find you.

But then again, so the does the pain that's ripping throughout my entire body. I swallow hard, wincing as something sharp scrapes against my throat. "Hello?" I call out. My voice is so hoarse that it doesn't sound like me at all.

And then, suddenly, I can see.

The room is red. It's a room, I know that now. The glass covering the floor glitters and shines. There are piles of it everywhere, covering the floor, surrounding everything. Then it's dark again. "Wait!" I start to cry. "Come back! Come back!" And it does. Soon after I speak, the red light fills the room again.

Crunch.

Step.

Is it connected to my voice? The light fades once more, and I call out again. It comes back. It fades. I call. It comes back. This time I look down at myself.

And everything inside me crumbles.

My arms are shining, almost coated in shards. Dark blood is pouring out of them. I feel dizzy. More blood is dripping off my nose.

No.

No.

This isn't good. This isn't good!

I start to breathe heavily. Each breath hurts my lungs, and I taste more blood in my mouth. I have to get help... I turn around and freeze.

"No..."

Crunch.

Crunch.

The light disappears again.

"No!" I shout. "No no no!" My throat is killing me, but I continue shouting. Everything hurts, it all hurts so much. "No!" Behind me is nothing but more glass. All around me, surrounding me, every square inch of the entire room is coated in glass shards. Except for this one small spot I'm standing in. "No!" I haven't made it out, I'm not even close...

Crunch.

"Kanna?"

I stop shouting.

Crunch.

It's close. It's loud.

Crunch.

I look around, trying to find the source of the voice.

Crunch.

Breathing, I hear breathing. They're so close to me, I can feel it! No, I actually can feel it...

"Kanna."

I turn around. A tall figure is standing directly behind me, reaching out towards me. It's not wearing any clothes, but its skin is... dripping. It's falling off of its body. The face is wilted and stretched tightly against its skull. It has no eyes, only empty sockets. And it's smiling; a large grin filled with rotten teeth stretches across its face.

And then the light dies out.

I scream and scramble back, stepping again into the glass. Everything is bright red as I turn and try to run, crying as the glass stabs into my feet. I trip and hit the ground.

Crunch.

Crunch.

Crunch.

There's something small and round next to my hand. It's dark black and looks like headphones but without the chords. I grab it and stand back up again. The light dies once more and I scramble away in a different direction.

You probably can't remember much, but please just do this one thing. DO NOT let them find you!

Why didn't I listen? I shove the earbud into my ear and wince as the glass in my hand scrapes my neck.

"Help!" I shout. Red fills my eyes along with my voice. "You've gotta help me!"

"Stop talking! Stop talking!" The voice in my ear tells me. "It needs the light to see you!"

I trip, slamming my body into the shards covering the floor. I clap a bloody hand over my mouth to keep from screaming from the pain. The light finally dies.

"Walk quickly but quietly away."

I let out a short sob as I pull myself back to my feet. Clinking noises surround me as I shuffle through the shards. Shhh, I think to myself. Be quiet.

Be quiet.
