Vanessa and Matthew watched as the long, black creature dropped Toby's body in the forest zone.
"You did this," Matthew whispered.
Vanessa just nodded, her eyes stuck to the screen.
"He's gone because of you, why..." Matthew trailed off as he watched a tear slip down Vanessa's cheek.
"Kanna will find out."
"How do you know that?"
"Because if she doesn't, all of this will have been for nothing."
Matthew stared at her for a moment. "You planned this, didn't you?"
Vanessa stayed quiet.
"You knew he'd die! You knew she'd have to find him!"
Vanessa pursed her lips. "There are three communication devices hidden on him. I'm assuming that monster already destroyed one, and we have to pray that he didn't find the others."
"You killed him on purpose!"
"I had to!"
Slap!
Vanessa backpedals and falls over, her eyes wide with surprise. A hand goes up to touch her red cheek.
Matthew breathes heavily, glaring at her. "What makes her more valuable than Toby? Doesn't he deserve life too?"
Vanessa grits her teeth. "He killed a girl before he came to us"
"That doesn't give you the right to send him to his death!"
"I know it doesn't!"
"Then why'd you do it?!"
"You know why!" Vanessa stood. "I have to get her out of there! I have to! This is all my fault, and I have to fix it, no matter what!"
