Lu screams out Kanna's name once more, still holding the door open with one hand and cupping the other around his mouth. "Kanna!"

No answer.

Either she's out of earshot, or she's dead. He hopes it's the first thing.

Lu had been calling for a while now. His throat hurt. He finally gives up, stepping inside and letting the door close behind him. Guess I'll have to find her the good ol' fashioned way...

I wait for the healing tablet to kick in, clenching my teeth as my arm continues to send waves of pain throughout my body.

Snap.

Come on, come on... I think, willing the tablet to work quicker. I look around, trying to find a way out. The crunchers seem to be all around me again. I've gotta keep moving. I stand up once more, wincing and clutching my arm. Guess the tablet will have to work on the go. I start moving again, but running isn't an option anymore. My body hurts too much, and my arm is making it hard for me to focus.

Crack.

I gasp as I feel something hard hit my side. More pain explodes throughout my entire body. I collapse on the ground. My ribs are broken. Work... please work...

I wait, breathing hard and shouting out in pain. I wait as skin drips onto my face. I wait as a mouth opens up above me.

Please work.

I roll over just in time, listening to the cruncher's teeth snap together in empty air. As I lay on my side, pain shoots through me. I'm laying on the broken side.

Please work...

Teeth slam together again as I roll once more. This time, the cruncher grabs one of my feet and lifts me into the air above its head.

Please work!

But my body is still broken and tired, and I feel the cruncher starting to loosen its grip on my ankle.

Even if the tablet did kick in, it wouldn't save me now.

Lu's head snaps up as he hears a scream. "Kanna!" He charges towards the noise, his eyes widening as he sees the hundreds of smilies gathered in a group.

Surrounding something.

Surrounding her.

He shoves through, shouting at them to get back. "Let her go! Let her go now!" He watches as one of the crunchers drops Kanna on the ground, listening to his order. Her eyes are closed. Lu rushes over and places his head on her chest. She's still breathing. He looks at her body and sees that her arm is twisted up. It's not pointing in the direction it's supposed to. Lu holds a hand out over her body and watches as light pours out of his fingertips. The light fills Kanna, and her arm slowly fixes itself and ends up in the right position.

"Why do I always have to save you, bandages?"
