"Hi, devil. And how are we today?" Vanessa mocks.

"What do you want?"

"We want Kanna."

"I'm not giving her to you."

"I figured you'd say that, so instead, we'll make a deal."

Lu snorts, rapidly blinking to make the fuzziness go away. "What could you possibly offer me?"

"Him."

Lu suddenly goes quiet. His face drops his smug look of confidence. "That's a lie."

"You know we have the power to do it. And we will."

Lu pulls himself up. He looks around and frowns. There are no lights here to hover around his head. Everything is completely white and infinite. "A mind space, huh? I have to say, I'm disappointed. I thought you'd actually transferred me to that messed up little work place of yours."

"We'll give you Shawn, Lu." Vanessa steps forward, reaching towards him.

"Shawn's dead. He's gone. He wasted his chance," Lu says, pulling away from her.

"We can give him another one," she says.

"Well, I don't think he'd appreciate it," He retorts.

Vanessa groans in frustration. "Lu, please, just listen..."

"No, you listen to me!" Lu grabs Vanessa by the shirt and pulls her face close to his. "You left me in that godforsaken place to rot, and now you're just gonna dangle him over my head like that? I don't think so! Kanna stays with me, and Shawn stays dead. That's how it's supposed to be. That's how it will always be. So run back to your little monitors and buttons and do what you do best; hide. Because if I have the opportunity to find you, and I mean really  find you, I will rip your cowardly body to shreds."

They stare at each other in silence for a moment, neither moving, neither blinking.

And then, Lu lets go of Vanessa's shirt, and she slides to her knees, staring up at him. "I'm not running from this anymore."

"It's a little too late for that," Lu mutters. He looks away from Vanessa, then vanishes without a trace.

I slide down on the floor, my back against the door. My heart is beating so quickly that I can barely see what's in front of me.

It feels like emergency alarms are going off in my head. Everything is so loud, so fast... I'm sure that I'm slowly exploding on the inside. I press my hands against my face as the sobs start to rise up out of my throat. Where are you Lu? I need you... I've searched every zone, every room, and every hallway I possibly could, but I didn't find Lu. Tears soak my fingers and start dripping down my arms. It's like someone is spilling water into my hands.

Don't be gone, don't be gone, don't be gone...

I'm rocking back and forth. The hallway rocks with me. "Please don't be dead!" I cry. "Please!"

I open my mouth to say something again but stop.

Someone is touching my shoulder.

I slowly peel my hands from my face, turning my head to see a pale hand sitting on my shoulder. I look up.

Green eyes stare down at me. A tear slips down from them. "Kanna."

I throw myself up at Lu, wrapping my arms around him and squeezing him as tight as I can. I just cry and cry and cry, tears bursting out of my face and soaking his shirt.

"I'm here," Lu whispers. "I'm here."

Author's Note:

Since this was soooo short I'll be extra nice and post another chapter AGAIN. I'm trying my best not to make this a habit XD
