I sleep curled up next to Lu all night, gripping his arm.

If he ever vanishes again, I don't think I'll survive through it.

"Where were you?"

"I was in the forest zone. Don't worry, I stayed in sight of the door."

I rub my eyes and stare at the ceiling. Lu is still sleeping.

I checked in the forest zone, and he wasn't there.

He wasn't anywhere.

And the door was definitely closed.

I shake my head, pushing the thoughts away. Why would he lie? I must've just not noticed him. I look over at his soft blond hair. His chest rises and falls with each breath. I frown. Why was he in the forest zone in the first place? And if he was close to the door, wouldn't he have heard me calling for him?

You died. Those creatures killed you.

I shudder as Vanessa's voice interrupts my thoughts.

Crack.

I sit up, sliding myself away from Lu's sleeping body. Even if he is lying to me, it isn't a big deal, I decide. It's not like he has much to hide in a place like this.

I lift up an empty water bucket and push open the door.

Whoosh.

Click.

I look over, expecting to see Mr. Smiley standing there. It takes me a few seconds to remember that he's gone. I haven't seen him since he trapped me in the corn zone. Good riddance, I think, moving towards the ocean zone. I pull open the door and bend over to set the bucket down.

And then I slip, tumbling into the cold water.

My head submerges under water. I feel my hair become heavy as it absorbs the liquid around it. I quickly swim up, reaching for where I think the door is.

But when I open my eyes above water, it's already closed and gone.

"Again?!" I scream. I slap my fist into the water, frustration raging through me.

The good thing about the ocean zone is that there's absolutely nothing in here that will kill you. But, there's no land anywhere, and if you're stuck here long enough eventually you'll sink and drown.

Yay.

I just have to stay afloat until Lu comes to find me.

"Girl gone."

Lu wakes up slowly, groaning as he sees a smiley standing over him. "What now?"

"Girl gone."

Lu frowns, then turns to see Kanna's place is empty. He quickly sits up, immediately wide awake. "Where is she?"

"Water."

Lu stands up and moves towards the door. "Be gone before I get back," he calls back to the smiley. It nods. Lu dashes down the hall and rips open the ocean door.

Kanna is a few feet away, treading water, looking extremely annoyed.

He sighs with relief. "You're okay."

"Can you help me out?"

Lu reaches out and grabs her hand, lifting her out of the water and into the hallway. "What happened?"

"I tripped," She muttered.

Lu looks at her for a second, then bursts out laughing. "You tripped? How clumsy can one person be?"

Kanna mumbles something, crosses her arms, then pushes past him.

"What was that?" Lu called, taunting her.

"Nothing!"
