An Opening

I can't breathe.

But I can't think about that right now, because I know that if Lu gets close to me, he'll kill me.

I force my feet to turn in a different direction and I start running, ignoring the tears flying off my face. I have to get out of here. I have to open the door. An image of the golden orbs the crunchers use enters my head. Of course! I slow down and turn around, looking at the group of crunchers speeding towards me. I take a deep breath and reach down. I pick up a large shard of glass and stand there, waiting.

And then they reach me.

I charge for the closest one, plunging the knife into its stomach and ripping through its body. Black liquid gushes out onto my face, drenching my entire body. I reach my arm inside its stomach. Come on... where is it? Suddenly, my hand wraps around something round. I pull it out of the cruncher's stomach and slash the shard at the black hand that's curled around my arm, pushing my feet forwards and running in a new direction. I throw the orb on the ground far in front of me, and a door opens up. I charge towards it, wiping the black blood out of my eyes. Almost there... I make it, ripping open the door and slamming it shut behind me.

I'm in the hallway.

And I have nowhere to go.

No no no... where do I go? I charge away from the glass room, dashing as fast as I can towards the square room. My best bet is in the other hallway, as far away from the glass zone as I can get. I hear the door opening behind me just as I charge into the square room. I push through, ignoring the sound of Lu shouting from the hallway. I dart forwards, moving as fast as I can and swinging open the door to a random zone. I gasp as my foot meets empty air and I tumble over the edge of the door.

I remember this zone.

It's "the pit."

I just barely grab onto the edge of the floor with one hand, my arm wrenching as my weight catches. Underneath me is a bottomless pit.

If I fall, I'll never get out.

My eyes widen as I look up and see the door starting to swing closed. It's gonna crush my fingers and I'll have to let go...

This is it.

This is where I die.

Lu grabs the door at the last second and reaches down, wrapping his fingers around Kanna's wrist. "What the hell are you thinking, bandages?" He pulls her up, guilt filling him as he sees the fear in her eyes. He sets her down and lets the door close. "You could've died, why are you being so reckless?"

"You killed Vanessa!" She screams, stumbling as she backs away from him. "You killed Toby!"

"They were gonna hurt you! They were going to take you away!"

"YOU KILLED THEM!" Tears flood from her eyes.

"But... I love you..." Lu whispers, taken aback. "I did this for you."

"Master."

Both Lu and Kanna look up to see a smiley standing beside them.

"Vanessa not have it."

Lu frowns, then his eyes widen with realization. He slowly looks at Kanna. "Where is it?"

She takes another step back. "Where is what?"

"The key, where is it?"

She clenches her hand and pulls it close to her chest. "I don't know what you're talking about."
