Chapter 17

It was Thursday night and I was waiting for my Mom to get home from work. School was pretty boring and I got a lot of homework but I finished when I got home. I wanted to make sure my Mom couldn’t come up with any excuses.

The DMV was only open late on Thursday’s and I really needed to get my license. Even though I don’t have a car I think I’ve waited long enough. I heard the alarm go off meaning that someone was home.

“Hello?” I called out so I could find out who was home.

“Hey kiddo.” Mike called out to me.

“Oh hey.” I said a little disappointed.

“Why so sad?” he asked as he came into the living room.

“I’m waiting for Mom to get home because the DMV is only open late on Thursday’s and I really want to go get my license. All I have to do is walk in there and get it. I don’t have to take a driving test because I got a waiver in my class but she still hasn’t taken me.” I whined to Mike. I heard the chirp of the alarm telling us that someone opened the door. “Mom!”

            “What?” she called out irritated.

“No excuses you’re taking me to the DMV now.” I told her like I was the parent right now and she looked at me in ‘you know better then to you use that tone on me’ way. “Sorry.”

“Ok fine.” She finally gave in. “Let me change and we’ll go.”

Finally! I started dancing around the living room and I heard laughter so I quickly stopped and turned around to see Mike’s face red as a tomato from laughing so hard.

“Oh be quiet!” I rolled my eyes and went down stairs to my room to wait until my Mom called out to me.

When she finally did we got in the car and went to the DMV. It didn’t take long there. We walked in, gave them my waiver information, and then the sheet that had all my hours on it and then I went and got my picture taken. It took all of twenty minutes.

We walked out of the building and I ran to the car to the drivers side. My Mom sighed and tossed me the keys. I was so excited.

“Mom can I have the car tonight? Please?” I asked. I wanted to go see Zack and then Emily and Lauren.

“Sure. You know when you have to be home.” I took her home and then drove over to Zack’s house. It was my first drive alone and I was kind of nervous.

When I got to his house I honked the horn and waited for someone to come outside. I didn’t care who I just didn’t want to get out of the car.

Chace opened the door and smiled at me. I saw him roll his eyes and then hold up a finger telling me to hold on a minute. A couple minutes after Chace closed the door Zack came out and ran up to the passenger door.

“You got your license?” he asked as he got in the car.

            “Yeah!” I yelled.

“That’s exciting. How do you like it?”

“I’m not sure yet. I was a little nervous coming over but I’m getting use to it.” I told him.
