Chapter 22
“Auntie Court!” I heard as I walked in the door a few steps behind Emily and Chace.
“Hey honey. How are you?” I asked Lauren as I gave her a hug.
“I’m good. Auntie Court can you watch Cinderella with me? Please, please, please?” Lauren said looking at me with puppy dog eyes.
“Sure Lauren. Why don’t you go get the movie and I’ll be in the living room in a few minutes.” I set her down and she ran to go get the movie.
Seeing her happy made me smile since it had been such a sad day.
Zack turned to me and started asking, “What did he say?”
“He just told me to take care of you and that I will go far in life,” I said cutting a few things out because I didn’t want him to worry. Then I added, “Oh and he said that we were going to get married.”
I looked over at Zack with a blush burning my cheeks. He had a small smile on his face and when he noticed me blushing he started to chuckle.
“Don’t laugh at me. It’s not nice.” I told him.
“Sorry babe but you should see your face. You are so red.” He started to chuckle again until Lauren came in the room.
“I’m waiting for you! I want to watch Cinderella!” She yelled.
“Ok I’m coming.” I told her and then turned to Zack, “Go get Emily and Chace so we can all sit down together. I think that would be best right now.”
He nodded at me agreeing and then walked towards the kitchen where they had gone when we first got here. I went towards the living room and picked up the DVD off the couch. Lauren was lying on one end of the couch waiting for the movie to start.
“Ok Lauren I’m going to start the movie and then I have to make a phone call. After that I’ll sit with you.” I told her.
I looked over at her and she just nodded at me as she started watching the beginning of the movie. Walking out of the room I pulled out my phone and called my mom. It rang three times before she answered.
“Honey?” she asked.
“Hey mom. Sorry I didn’t call you earlier I was at the hospital with Zack.” I told her hoping she would understand.
“Oh honey what’s going on? Is everything ok?” I could hear her starting to get worried.
“No… Zack’s grandfather is in the hospital. He has lung cancer.” I could hear her take in a quick gasp as I said this. “I was hoping it would be ok to stay the night? Everyone is really upset and I really want to help.”
“Oh yea that is fine. Do I need to call you out of school tomorrow?” She asked me completely understanding what everyone was going through.
“If that is ok with you I would like to stay with Zack. I mean tomorrows Friday so I won’t be missing much.”
“That’s fine. Call me in the morning sweetie. Goodnight. And tell his family they are in my thoughts.”
“Ok Mom I will. I love you. I’ll call you in the morning.” I said. I was grateful she was letting me stay home with Zack tomorrow.
