Chapter 17: Sometimes Moving Backwards Is Moving Forwards

"You know Valerie's really pissed about something, like REALLY PISSED, and I cannot tell you how happy that makes me" Anna smirked.

"Oooh! Why is she really pissed?" Georgia asked excitedly.

Anna looked about to see if anyone was in the playground, but it was before first period so there weren't many people and when she was sure no one would over hear us she whispered "Nobody really knows why but I went to Sean's party on Saturday and Valerie turned up. Now that was sure enough going to make heads turn but she got really drunk. Like total-wasted-puking-in-the-bathroom kind. She even attacked everyone with her heels in the end. Her friends had to drag her out"

"Wow! The girl that never has more than two drinks because she has to keep up the perfect image and upload everyone else's embarrassing pictures on Facebook." Katy spoke with such confusion.

"Yeah exactly! But I think it has something to do with Ryder" my head shot up as I heard his name "because I caught her trying to get it on with him once she was drunk but he kept pushing her off" Anna added.

My heart was beating like a drum because of the mention of his name but also because Valerie was still trying to get with him.

"Woah. He's really making it clear to her he doesn't want anything to do with her" Ariana playfully nudged me with her elbow subtly and smiled at me mischievously when I looked to her.

"Yeah but not only that! She tried so hard so many times to get his attention, she kissed another guy when she was right in front of him but he didn't care. She kept trying to sit in his lap and dance with him and tried to kiss him. It was so funny because she was shit drunk but even when she was drunk she kept trying. I can't decide if the girl's got balls for relentlessly trying or a thick skull for not getting the message" Anna laughed.

"You think that has anything to do with when she threatened Faith?" Georgia questioned.

"I don't know. Has she said anything to you Faith?" Anna asked.

"How would it have anything to do with me?" my tone was urgent and defensive.

"Because she threatened you openly in front of us and said you should back off from Ryder and now she kinda lost it on Saturday?" Anna looked at me with confusion.

I gulped "Oh right" I held on to my arm remembering the way Valerie twisted it a few days ago. "She hasn't really said anything" I mean what she did hurt me more than her words plus she didn't get to say all that much because Ryder came and stopped her.

"Well she might come after you a little harder if she's losing it so just be careful okay?" Ariana added with so much worry on her face.

"Yeah because if you're still talking to him and he won't give her the time of day she might become a little more aggressive Faith. Ariana's right you have got to be careful." Anna said matching Ariana's worried expression with her own look of concern.

This was great. Valerie was acting so unlike herself because Ryder threatened her last week because of me. My friends were right, I had to be really careful because this was not looking good for me. I didn't even want to be on the outskirts on her radar and as much as I had tried to avoid it where did I end up? Yeah I ended up in the middle of it! This was such a facepalm moment because okay yeah I didn't want her controlling whether I spoke to Ryder or not but in her eyes Ryder had basically gone from ignoring her to threatening her because of me.

"Thanks guys, I mean what more can she try? She's already tried to threaten me and it hasn't worked. There's nothing else she could try"

"I wouldn't be so sure Faith, I've heard things about her. Her exes don't talk too well about her. They say she's really controlling and it's her way or no way" Anna's reply made me nervous. I did not need any more drama in my life.
