The end of the year was fast approaching as classes began to wind down and melancholy settled into my heart that this was the end of a huge pivotal stage in my life; the only silver lining was that I had a beautiful reason that now made me excited to begin this new stage whatever it was. My reason.

"Hey I wanna tell him a story!"

"No it's my turn"

"Come on, pretty please!" he said while batting those long black eyelashes that framed his green eyes perfectly.

"No Ryder! That isn't fair you cannot use the puppy face on everything!"

"Hey, you can flash me every time you want something and I'm pretty sure I will give in" he said with a wink and that devilish smile.

"Ryder!" I had to slap him, I mean in front of Arlo! Guys were impossible.

"Hey, I mean you can flash me your torch so we can make puppets on the wall" he said extra loud as if to catch Arlo's attention with those words instead of the ones he had uttered previously.

I raised one of my eyebrows "Seriously?"

He covered Arlo's ears with his hands and turned to me "No...I mean you can flash me and I will definitely let you tell Arlo a story tonight" Aaaand he was back.

"Ryder you win" I sighed.

"So youre actually gonna flash me? Wait let me cover Arlo's eyes, I mean I don't wanna scar the poor kid."

A wry smile had broken onto my face. "No you win, you get to tell him a story tonight. You actually think I would flash you while being in the same room as Arlo? What is wrong with you?" I asked as I headed to the door of the bedroom shaking my head in disbelief.

"Wait but you didn't say you wouldn't flash me at all. Which means you will flash me later on tonight?" he asked me with a knowing smile.

"You are so cheap" I shook my head furiously but couldn't help the smile erupting on my face.

"But baby you love this cheap thrill"

"That's exactly the problem" I said with a smug look on my face and before he could answer I had walked out of the bedroom laughing.

"Ryder..." I had washed my face and just walked out the bathroom into the living area

"Hiya, darling" my blood froze in every vein of my body as I raised my eyes to validate if what I had heard was a figment of my imagination or reality. A very twisted and harsh reality.

No no. This couldn't be happening. There was no way. Every cell in my body was fighting this moment like it was a virus in dire need of being attacked.

"How are ya? Are you good?" he asked me as he stumbled towards me.

I was rooted to the spot. I could see what was happening but it was as if trying to fight this virus had drained my body of its resources. I wanted to escape but my own body was holding me captive.

"You know what I need don't ya?" Nothing. Nothing was spewing out of my unfaithful mouth. Not one part of my body was supporting me. I wanted to do something, but what happened was nothing.

"You know I hate hurting you? You know that don't ya? But I have to when you don't give me what I need. And I know you have it, you just don't give me it."

His face was nearing mine and the eyes were even more bloodshot than before if it was possible. He looked desperate and on-edge. This could only mean one thing; whatever I would have to face would be worse. Worse than last time, and this time I might even end up with a few broken bones. I could already feel the pain of that shadowing my body, taunting me and making known it's presence.
