"So Ryder...tell us about yourself" Mrs Evans began. She was giving him a wide, cheshire cat smile while not blinking which honestly made her look so creepy.
"Erm...well I don't really know what I want to do yet so I have applied to a bunch of colleges but we shall see where life takes me" he smiled back, but his was warm and disarming.
"That's a good lad. You can't decide on something if you don't know yet. Everyone takes their own time in realising what they want to do" Mr Evans nodded his head at Ryder.
"Thanks" he nodded curtly back.
"What are your interests Ryder, obviously apart from our Faith" Mrs Evans wiggled her eyebrows at us and I face palmed myself and cringed. So this is why kids thought parents were embarrassing. I finally got it, but honestly it felt nice too. Like a slight warmth at the pit of my stomach.
Ryder laughed and his shoulders shook "Yes, well obviously there's your Faith" he gestured his palm towards Mrs Evans and she smiled smugly.
"Of course, look at her how could you not be interested in that?" Mrs Evans surveyed me from head to toe.
"Mrs Evans!" I exclaimed.
"What dear? It's the truth, I call it like it is and you my dear daughter are precious" she nodded her head with complete determination.
"That's very true. She's amazing" Ryder snuck his hand into mine and squeezed. The little gesture had my heart bursting.
"But apart from her I love looking after my twin brothers and...I love cooking actually"
"Wow, what do you cook Ryder?" Mrs Evans looked at him with a look of adoration as she tilted her head at him.
"Oh nothing too fancy, but I do like cooking steaks and chicken and I think my best recipe is my alfredo pasta followed by a chocolate cheesecake"
"Oh that sounds wonderful! I might have to ask to borrow your recipes sometimes" Mrs Evans eyes lit up like a Christmas tree.
"Oh sorry, no can do. Otherwise how would I treat you to a dinner sometime?" he smirked. Oh the audacity, he was going all out and shamelessly flirting with my kind-of-mother whom he was trying to impress. It was working as Mrs Evans looked at him affectionately.
Mr Evans cleared his throat and shot his wife a look of disapproval while she shamelessly ogled my boyfriend and was probably mentally planning out our marriage, our two storey suburbian home with a picket white fence and our kids' names knowing her.
"Well that sounds very good. You will definitely have to make that for us sometime" Mr Evans smiled.
Ryder placed a hand over his heart "It would be my pleasure."
I think I heard Mrs Evans sigh dreamily before Mr Evans all but nudged her into the kitchen.
"I'm going to go help her" I dismissed myself and walked into the kitchen.
I leaned my hip against a counter and crossed my arms "You're imagining our future aren't you?" I asked dryly.
Mrs Evans turned and looked at me excitedly "I am! How can I not? He obviously makes you happy and for all the right reasons. I so wanted to be the mean and suspicious parent but that boy makes it so hard to! He's got a good head on his shoulders"
I turned and looked at Ryder who was chatting away happily to Mr Evans "He does" I whispered.
"You know I used to worry about you" I turned back to see Mrs Evans looking off into the distance.
