Chapter 24: DATE-ing

Ryder was walking me home from school and I had a thought. A daring thought. I bit down on my lower lip contemplating if I should or not.

I mean it wasn't really a big deal at all to other people but for me this was huge. I sucked in a sharp breath and told myself to suck it up and stop thinking and just do it.

I reached out and grabbed Ryder's hand and took it in mine smiling instantly as it felt just right. In fact, I was wondering why I took so long to do this.

Ryder turned his head to me suddenly, his green eyes peering at me with shock and his mouth open slightly in question "Faith what are you doing? What if someone sees us?" he turned his head around in different directions trying to check if anyone was looking.

A laugh escaped me "What?" he laughed and asked while looking at me.

"That should be me, since when are you so scared of having someone see us?" I asked while smiling naughtily at him. Loving him gave me the courage I always wanted.

He continued to walk but took a step to his side until he was right next to me and gave our linked hands a squeeze "Since it mattered to my girlfriend, it matters to me" he smirked while looking me dead in the eye.

My knees became like jelly after listening to his heavenly words "Well your girlfriend is one lucky girl that she has such an understanding boyfriend that cares so much about her" I gulped and stared at him in awe, his green eyes capturing me.

He looked down at the pavement and shook his head at me "Nah, I'm the lucky one she gave me a chance even though she had a lot going on" he stopped abruptly and pulled on our joined hands causing me to run in and collide with his chest as I braced myself by putting both my hands on his chest. He wrapped his arms around my hips and just stared.

I could see unspoken emotions dwelling in his bright green eyes that wanted to say so much and my eyes were telling him I felt the exact same for him. There was a gentle breeze blowing through the trees around us on the sidewalk and I could hear the leaves rustling. The scent of fresh leaves filled the air around us. I could have stayed in this moment forever, wrapped in his arms and captivated by his soulful green eyes staring at my secrets, my soul and the emotions in me for him.

He broke the serene silence "Faith, will you go on a date with me?"

I gasped and I was sure my eyes widened "A date?"

He shrugged his shoulders "Yeah I mean" he looked down and was getting all shy? "only if you want to" Ryder was getting shy? I had never once see him getting shy over anything but asking me on a date, did it? He looked so adorable I wanted to kiss him.

I smiled widely and placed one of my hands on his cheek "Of course, I will go on a date with you"

At my words, he suddenly raised his head and asked excitedly with a huge grin "Really?"

I laughed as I placed my hand back on his chest "Why wouldn't I, I am your girlfriend and that's what couples do don't they?"

He looked down quizzically and cleared his throat "Yeah they do"

"Then yes Ryder I will go on a date with you" I smiled but wondered "when though?"

He looked up and met my eyes with so much determination "Tonight"

"Tonight? Wh- err...I don't know if I can manage that!" I looked to the left of me "I mean I need an outfit and I don't know if I will-" I mumbled as he called my name. I had been so excited about going on a date and admiring Ryder as he got all shy that I forgot I had never been on a date and I didn't know how I should dress or what I was supposed to do or any protocols!
