Lincoln and Locke were huddled over a piece of paper, as they were sitting together in the middle row while Lily was crammed between Shepard and Lando in the back.
She leaned forward in her seat. "What're you two looking at," she inquired, trying to peek at their piece of paper.
Locke dropped it to his lap and Lincoln leaned over it, and they both looked at her. "It's top secret," Lincoln insisted.
Lily dramatically rolled her eyes. "Seriously? Tell me what it is!"
"Why don't you make me!"
Lily grinned, taking her fingers and pinching him on the back of the neck. She grabbed him as if she was grabbing a cat by the scruff of its neck and he started crying out.
Christy whipped around in her seat. "Lily! Let your brother go this instant!"
"He's not sharing!"
"Sharing what?"
Lincoln glared at Lily and Lily only smirked. She let Lincoln go and sat back in her seat with a satisfied grin. "It's just a drawing," Lincoln protested.
Christy sighed. "Can you guys just play nice today, please? I want a stress free day," she said. "If at all possible," she mumbled under her breath as she sat back in her seat. Jessie only snickered. The both of them knew that wasn't going to happen.
Lily gave her brother a look, waiting for him to elaborate what it was that he had in his hands. Lincoln groaned, Locke shaking his head with a smile.
"It's a map," Locke whispered, and Lincoln gave him a disgruntled eye. Lily looked interested, and she rested her arms on the back of the seat as she waited for him to continue. "When we get home, and after our school work, we're going to pool together our allowances so we can buy supplies to make weapons to help our dads defeat the werewolves," Locke whispered so their mothers wouldn't hear, Lily's eyes shooting wide open.
"How are you going to do that exactly?"
Lincoln was actually grinning, because he was the one that came up with this brilliant plan.
"We're going to break into the school and use the wood shop to make the weapons. We have to do some research and find out how to make our weapons, but we plan on making them out of solar lights."
Lily's face brightened considerably and she started bobbing up and down excitedly. "I want to help! Please let me help!"
Locke and Lincoln shushed her as they eyed their mothers who were having a conversation about a chick flick they watched last night, so they didn't even pay attention.
"Alright. We need your allowance too."
Lily's face dropped. "Why?"
"The supplies might get expensive," Lincoln said with a shrug, and Locke nodded his head. Lily pouted, crossing her arms over her chest. "It's to help dad," he insisted, and Lily dropped her arms, her eyes lightening considerably.
She nodded her head. "Alright. Anything I can do to help," she said, and the three of them exchanged glances. They finally pulled up to the library and everyone filed out of the vehicle. Christy had a bag slung over her shoulder that had their school books in it, and the kids huddled together as they followed their mothers in. They've never done their school work in the library before, so it was a nice change.
They stepped into the cool air conditioned, quiet atmosphere and the mothers picked a table secluded from others and nearest the tall bay windows. Jessie looked around, wondering where she would even begin to look for a book like a bestiary. She thought maybe science fiction would be a good place to start looking, and after Christy had the kids settled down with books in front of them to begin the lesson, she leaned over the table.
"I have to go look for a book for Rhett. I'll be right back," she told Christy, who looked up with a nod of her head. Christy was a fantastic teacher and Jessie couldn't think of a better person to leave her kids with. Jessie wandered toward the science fiction section and her eyes scanned all of the books on the shelf. Her lips were pursed as she purused, not finding anything that would be useful. She saw a werewolf book, but it was a fictional story and she shook her head with a sigh. She reached for a book that may have been promising as it was a book on mythical folklore, as she remembered Rhett saying something about that earlier that morning.
"Need help looking for something?" A sudden voice caused her to jump and she dropped the book.
She brought her hand up to her chest and chuckled, looking up at the man that was slightly taller than her. She broke away from his wide, dazzling white smile to the name tag on his shirt and was relieved that he worked here, although she didn't know if she could bring herself to ask for a bestiary.
"Well Derek, I don't know," she trailed off, bringing her hand up to her forehead.
He raised a dark bushy brow at her and chuckled lightly. "Depends on what you're looking for a I guess, right?"
She looked into his deep brown eyes and smiled. "Actually, yes. I have a very strange request," she began, looking about the room. How does one ask for a book on mythical creatures without sounding serious? She glanced over at her boys who were studiously working and an idea formed. "My boys and husband are big into mythical creatures. Do you think you could show me where I'd find a book on mythical creatures?"
