Mike kept looking down the road with hope in his heart that Rhett and Link were going to show up at that exact moment and end the possible kidnapping. When they were nowhere in sight, his heart dropped along with his head. He took one good look at his close friend, who also had the same instinct to take a good long look back.
They made it to the car and Josh opened one of the doors, ushering a reluctant Mike into the seat. He cried out in disgust at a horrific pungent odor that resembled a dead animal. Alex wretched as he was shoved into the back seat of the car as well, his eyes watering from the potent vapors. What in God's name is that," he cried as he brought his wrist up to his nose, a tear leaking out of his eye.
Josh leaned against the door frame, poking his head in with a grin on his face. "We had to do something with the store clerk."
Mike and Alex's eyes widened and the both of them abruptly sat up straight with their backs plastered flat against the seat. Josh shut the door and stood outside the car for a moment, conversing with his partner.
Alex slowly turned his head to look at Mike, his face sheet white. "Mike," he said, his voice strained.
"Alex," Mike replied, taking on the exact same tone.
"We're going to die, aren't we?"
"Probably."
They turned their heads to look straight out the windshield, and they saw a light barreling toward them like a comet. Alex narrowed his eyes and sat forward in his seat, Mike gripping the seat with apprehension. "That vehicle is coming right at us!" Alex's mouth popped open as he realized it was somebody on a motorcycle, and as it came closer, they could hear the throttle roaring as the person revved.
The motorcycle skidded to a stop right in front of the car, the back tire squealing and pulling toward the front of the car. The person dismounted the bike and pulled something out of a satchel on their back, and Alex choked when he realized it was a crossbow. He watched as the person then swiftly notched a bolt into place and fired directly at the two wolves. They heard a howl and Alex and Mike ducked and covered their heads as the car rocked, the person jumping onto the hood and firing another bolt.
Alex listened intently as he could hear some of what was being said outside.
"This chick is really starting to get on my nerves," Josh growled, and Mike raised his head just a bit so he could look outside. He saw as Josh tried taking a swipe for the person but the person ducked and delivered a kick right to his jaw in one swift movement.
Josh fell to the ground and the other charged, the person swiveling on their heel and cracking their elbow against his nose. He stumbled backward and the person ran toward their side of the car and popped the door open. "Get out," the feminine voice demanded, and they hastily climbed out of the car and scattered as far as they could.
The woman notched another bolt onto the bow and pointed it at the two of wolves on the ground. "If I run into you two harassing anyone else again, you're going to die with one of these directly between the eyes. Got it?"
Josh rolled his eyes and shot up to his feet. He stepped toward her, scrutinizing the visor of the helmet. Nobody could see what her eyes looked like. "Fine. But we will get them. You can't be everywhere all the time, Lydia."
Mike and Alex gave each other a quick glance, shaking on the spot from the adrenaline pushing through their systems. They were shocked that they didn't try to kill her, seemingly hopping into their car and peeling off as if nothing ever happened. The woman named Lydia watched as the car disappeared down the road, and then she turned to face Mike and Alex.
From what they could see without looking at her face, she was an attractive woman. Her frame was adorned with black leather style leggings and a studded leather corset, all of which hugged her muscles and made them appear like she was flexing them all the time. She wore black knee high boots with matching studs and a leather jacket that was unzipped to cover her bare arms. She pulled the helmet off over her head, flicking her luscious platinum blond hair about so that it fell perfectly past her shoulders. Alex's jaw dropped and he was fairly certain it was on the pavement.
Mike nudged him repeatedly with his elbow. She approached them so that they were all under the streetlight and she looked between the two of them, shaking her head slowly. Her plump lips were slightly puckered, bringing out the dimples in her cheeks. "What the hell were you two thinking just going along with them? You realize they planned on killing you, right?"
Alex only blinked. He couldn't peel his eyes away from her almond shaped chocolate brown eyes. She waved her hand in front of his face and he shook his head. "Have we idea no," Alex said with a shrug.
Mike slowly turned his head to look at Alex with an eyebrow raised, Lydia's eyebrows shooting up her forehead. "I'm sorry?"
Alex chuckled nervously, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. He lowered his eyes to the ground while Mike was looking at him like he'd just grown another head.
Lydia just shook her head. "I guess it doesn't matter. I feel like I know you two from somewhere... what are your names?"
"Name is my Alex. You are how?"
Mike busted at the seams, doubling over. Lydia narrowed her eyes, looking at Mike expectantly. "Does your friend always talk backwards?"
Mike wiped a tear away from the corner of his eye, straightening himself up. "Apparently only in the presence of a cute girl. This is Alex, and I'm Mike." He held his hand out to her to shake and she clasped his hand, her firm grip causing him to wince from surprise.
She laughed. "I'm sure you've already gathered, but my name is Lydia. Daughter of the sheriff," she said with a wink. Mike and Alex's eyes both widened, and just then, a van pulled up. Relief flooded through the two of them when they saw it was Rhett and Link. Rhett pulled the van to a stop and exited first, followed by Link.
Lydia scrutinized the two tall men, her hands flying up to her mouth. "Oh my God. Rhett and Link!"
