"Sweetheart, there's a reason why you and Rhett have become such good friends. When the universe was created, your souls were in alignment with the plan. The both of you were destined for something great," Mercedes spoke in a smooth, consoling voice.

Link was hyperventilating, his eyes wide as saucers. She could visibly see him shaking as he gawked at his palm. That must have been where he cut to join blood with Rhett.

"It's no coincidence that you two became blood brothers."

Link shuddered and shook his head, his mouth working but no words coming out.

She could only imagine the myriad of questions he had. She took a step toward him and he took a step backward.

"Unfortunately Teegan couldn't settle with the idea that you are a Seer of Darkness, and resorted to treachery to make sure he came out on top. Even if that meant taking the pact you made with your brother."

Link hitched his breath and stopped breathing altogether, gaping at Mercedes. "Your blood combined gives him strength. Strength to avenge his daughter. Strength to murder his own sister to gain a second head. Strength to go after his last sister for the last head, to become the most powerful Alpha werewolf on the planet... Link," Mercedes took a another step toward him and he cried out. It was a warbled sob.

"You must use your power to stop him."

Link took another step backward, his heel catching on a dip in the ground. He fell, landing on his backside with a thud. He shook his head feverishly, his glasses going askew once again. He didn't even bother to fix them. "I... I can't. I can't do this anymore. I can't do this!"

"Link."

"No. No... please leave me alone!" He scrambled to his feet and tore off toward the woods, where they were originally trailing off to before she dropped all of these bombshells on him. He ran as fast as his legs could carry him, feeling the burn in his thighs and the tightness in his calves. His lungs felt like they were on fire, his breathing coming in ragged gasps. Everything was a blur as his feet pounded against the grass, and he kept on going until he blended in with the trees. After what felt like a solid five minutes of running, he paused and ducked behind a large tree, taking in a huge gulp of air as he doubled over. He just needed time alone to think.

Every emotion he could possibly conceive was happening in his system right now. He was angered by Teegan's actions of killing his grandmother for her power. He was also angered by Jackson's and Amelia's way of getting back at him by killing an innocent 10 year old girl. What good did that do, other than upsetting the brand new Alpha in town? One that went out of his way to kill his mentally disabled sister, and as of right now formulating a plan to kill the other so he can become the three headed Alpha. He was distraught by the fact that this girl was only 10 years old, unable to live her childhood out to its fullest. She was doomed from the very beginning, all because of who her parents were.

Who was her mother? Link sighed as he pressed his back flat against the tree, sliding to the ground. His gaze was fixed on something in the distance. The reason Rhett and Link were even involved to begin with was because Teegan somehow swiped their blood pact that they made many years ago. According to Mercedes, they were "special" to begin with and that must have coursed through their blood and made Teegan stronger.

But how did it make him stronger, and how much stronger did that really make him? He couldn't have taken the pact when they were kids, because Rhett and Link hadn't even made the pact then. Did they have a run in with him in college at some point?

Link squinted his eyes as he tried to recall. There had to have been an incident of some sort when it happened. He knew he left it in a wallet that was leather and pretty beat up from many years of use, with holes and normal tear. Maybe they had crossed paths at a party, or at the bar, or somewhere that he just couldn't remember.
