It was dark when I opened my eyes, I quickly got changed and put my trackies on and my trainers, then I listened at the door. I stood for ages but then I heard someone coming towards my room. "Just doing the meds Vickie" I heard her say, so I leapt back into bed and pulled the sheet right up under my chin, so she wouldn't see my clothes and pretended to be asleep.

She put the small light on "Ryan, time for your medication." She began,

"huh? no thanks" I pretended to be stirring half asleep.

"Nice try matey, wristband please" she said sternly.

"Oh, it's fell off, I meant to tell you earlier, sorry" I lied, hoping she'd leave me alone,

"Really? Wristband Ryan; I need to cross check your details."

Oh shit, I hadn't thought about this.

"I'm cold" I said, trying to distract her, but she just pulled the sheet back

"Why are you wearing your hoodie?" she asked,

"I told ya, I'm cold!" I insisted.

She pulled up my sleeve and revealed the wristband that I'd lied about losing. "Amazing, look what I've found" she said sarcastically; I just stared at her.

"I, I just don't want any tablets" I said,

"So are you refusing your medication Ryan?" she confirmed

"If you like...yeah.....night then!" I said sarcastically pulling the sheet over myself; two can play that game.

I knew she wasn't that convinced that I was cold, especially when she came back in with the Obs machine! She took my temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels

"All seems okay Ryan, maybe it's because you're so upset," she said, "anything I can do to help?" she asked

"Get me out of here?" She didn't respond.

Ryans POV

I had to wait longer than I'd planned; I just listened at the door, I hadn't got my phone either, Mike had taken it home, so I had no idea what time it was. I listened hard, and then I heard some alarms going off and nurses running in the opposite direction. Here's my chance I thought. I left my room and was almost at the nurse's station when I heard the nurse talking on the phone, so I hid in the toilet. I thought she'd gone back to the others so I came out of the toilet and sneaked passed the nurse's station. As I got to the door, 'Oh Fuck! it's operated by a buzzer and a camera; God I hadn't planned for this! If I buzzed from the inside they'd see me anyway', I sighed and it's not even visiting. I'm just trapped' I thought. I was about to admit defeat when some doctors with passes came rushing through the door; this was my chance, so I quickly walked through the door before it closed, without being seen.

Now I was in an empty corridor; confused and weary. I wondered, following the exit sign, but that just took me into another corridor 'Oh God; it's a maze'. I thought about turning around and going back, but I'm lost anyway and they'd want answers.

I tried to follow the signs, but, I'm scared, oh that overwhelming feelings just, just taking over. My heart started pounding and I couldn't breathe; I was sweating. I just slid down the wall onto the floor, The corridor was empty; I was completely alone. I tried to breathe 'what have I done? I should've just gone back' I thought to myself as I closed my eyes, trying to control the panic.

Then I heard footsteps; "help me, please, help me" I cried out in a weary voice. Then a man in a navy uniform knelt beside me.

"Alright lad, I'm Scott, I'm one of the porters" he began,

"I'm lost" I said in a faint voice.

"Are you a patient?" he asked,

"Yeah"

"what ward are you on?" he gently asked.

"I don't know; some kid's ward." I replied.

"Don't worry, just try to relax" he said with his hand on my shoulder as he radioed someone; I don't know who.

Then he just sat with me and tried to calm me. "So what's ya name lad?" He asked,

"Ryan",

"Where were you going?" he continued making idle chat,

"I was trying to go home" I said trying to calm myself,

"funny time to be going home!" he joked,

"Why, what time is it?" I asked

"nearly half past one in the morning."

"oh" I sighed.

"Is that a Livrpool accent I hear?" he asked,

"Yeah" I sighed wearily just as two burly security guards arrived

"Hey Ryan, come to take you back to the ward, you okay walking?" one of them asked,

"I got this far didn't I" I snapped, I was a bit calmer thanks to Scott,

"Do you want me to get you a wheelchair Ryan?" Scott asked,

"No, I'm fine thanks Scott; thanks for sitting with me," I said as I stood up from the floor.

"Any time, you just take care of yourself." He said and left.

One of the security guards had his hand on my shoulder as I started to walk back with them to the ward "You can take your hands off me!" I snarled angrily,

"I'm not taking any chances Ryan" he said sternly

"Hardly going anywhere now am I?" He didn't reply.

It didn't take long to get back to the ward, they buzzed us in and escorted me back to my room. "Back into bed Ryan, no more escapades tonight." the bald guy said, and then the nurse came in,

"come on, back into your pyjamas matey! Where were you going lad?" she asked,

"Dunno" I snapped as I climbed back into bed.

I just cried myself to sleep. I woke up startled and hot, HE, HE was laughing at me; again!

"Pathetic; PATHETIC, that's what you are!" I started to shake and his face was coming closer;

"NO!" I screamed, then he was hitting and punching me, Pathetic, Pathetic he kept saying; over and over again. I tried to scream, but I couldn't make a sound. Maybe this was it; he'd come to finish the job.
